Position Overview
The student will work under the direction of Strength & Conditioning to provide support to student-athletes associated with strength & conditioning training for athletically related activities for student-athletes, including support in nutrition.
This position will monitor workouts in the weight room and athletic facilities at the direction of the Strength & Conditioning staff.
Hours per Week
Responsibilities to include up to 20 hours per week availability in the athletic department reporting to the Strength and Conditioning Coach, some of these hours may fall on weekends or outside of normal business hours.
College / Department Overview
The Athletics Department at the University of Central Oklahoma currently supports over 400 student athletes in 15 NCAA Division II sports including Football, Men's & Women's Basketball, Men's & Women's Golf, Baseball, Softball, Wrestling, Women's Track & Field (Indoor & Outdoor) and Cross Country, Women's Tennis, Women's Soccer, Women's Rowing and Women's Volleyball.
Department Specific Job Functions
Responsibilities include set-up / tear down of exercise equipment for drills, maintenance of equipment, collection and organization of workout data, participation / observation in strength and conditioning and other athletic department meetings.
Position will also provide nutrition education and support, including as a point of contact for student-athletes, coaches, and training staff.
Position will require innovation in developing processes to assist with things such as meal planning for pre-season and in-season meals, managing a fueling station for student-athletes, and possibly even conducting grocery store tours.
The position would be available to all UCO athletic teams as requested by the coaches. The position must be comfortable working in a training environment which will require high energy and motivation tactics.
Qualifications
Enrollment Requirements
Fall / Spring Semesters : All student employees must be enrolled at least half time to be eligible to work any UCO student position.
Half time enrollment for Fall / Spring is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. International students shall be enrolled full time to be eligible to work as a student worker.
Full time enrollment is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates.
Summer Semester : Student employees working regular student positions must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours to be eligible to work during the summer.
Students not enrolled in summer classes must be enrolled in Fall classes in order to work on campus, but they (and the department) will be required to pay FICA taxes.
Student employees working FWSP positions must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours (if undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (if graduate) in order to work during the summer in a Federal Work Study Program position.
Enrollment Exception : If the number of credit hours needed to graduate is less than the minimum number of hours required for student employment, the student must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor (stating the number of hours needed to graduate and anticipated graduation date) and submit it to Human Resources.

Qualifications / Experience Required
Exercise / nutrition related degree or pursuit thereof, interest in sports nutrition, athletic background or understanding of sports / sports industry, training in exercise science or experience working with an athletic population
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Skills include highly motivated and creative with ideas for engaging athletes, confident and bold, eager to learn, independent / self-starter.
