Job Summary
Oversee and maintain the Fashion Institute student sewing lab at South City Campus, Salt Lake Community College. Essential Responsibilities and Duties 1.
Keep student sewing lab organized (removing scraps, fabrics, paper left on tables)
2. Keep the sewing machines in working condition making sure they have needles, correct thread, and that stitches are put back on neutral, etc.
3. Make sure every machine has working feet
4. Make sure all sergers are threaded correctly, that the stitches are correct, and remove industrial thread from the sergers
5. Make sure all sergers are back in their neutral position and replace missing or broken needles
6. Keep sergers in their places on the table and lock up all foot pedals for sergers
7. Put serger thread back in the cupboard
8. Maintain the iron with water, removing burned materials from surface, etc.
9. Keep iron cords untangled and unplugged before locking up the sewing lab
10. Manage lost and found tools
11. Put chairs and dress forms back in place
12. Keep all irons cleaned
13. Make sure that no students are unattended in the sewing lab
14. Make sure that the sewing lab doors are not propped open and are shut at the end of the shift

Current student at Salt Lake Community College Preferred Qualifications
- Current or past student of the Fashion program who has taken and successfully finished all the construction classes
- Student should not be enrolled in the Collection classes during the semesters they are working as a Specialist.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Proficient at using and maintaining all types of sewing machines used within the Fashion program
- Good communication skills
- Ability to assemble, service and maintain clothing production equipment and machines
- Ability to perform basic janitorial duties
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
- Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
