By providing personalized music instruction as part of the Lessons program, our Instructors assist West Music in meeting a vital part of our vision of Encouraging people of all ages and abilities to : Play now.
Play for life. The teacher is responsible for conducting regular lessons (typically weekly) for students’ age 5 years to adult.
Our Teachers prepare, lead individual lessons, and evaluate student performance through regular practice sessions and performance opportunities.
Teachers may work at one or more of our music stores, providing instruction to clients in a studio or a combination of virtual and in-person lessons.
Additional responsibilities may include items such as development of teaching materials, set up and tear down of the recital hall for performances, and administrative / billing work.
This position is based out of the Davenport store.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.
Other duties may be assigned as business needs dictate :
- Identify the educational needs of each student and create the appropriate learning format for their abilities.
- Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
- Explains and demonstrates musical techniques using a variety of sources.
- Prepares students for performances, contests, or assessments
- Maintains student attendance records and other required records.
- Communicate effectively with students and parents of students (where applicable) on the progress of each student with positive and constructive feedback.
- Collaborate with store personnel to maximize lesson experience.
- Use provided learning management tool(s) keeping track of what students are learning, present creative (online) lessons, assign practices, and track student attendance.
- Use provided payroll and human resource information system completing weekly timesheets and performing required training and compliance tasks.
- Keeps informed of improvements and technical developments in the field by reading current literature, interacting with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences.
Education, Experience & QualificationsRequired Qualifications :
- Two years of prior teaching experience preferred.
- Candidate must be available to teach lessons during scheduled hours of operation at the West Music location.
- Possess an understanding of music concepts and theory and be able to communicate effectively to students of all ages.Desired Qualifications :
- College degree in a music related field or equivalent teaching experience.Key competencies :
