Position Summary :
The Senior Director of Quality serves as a key member of the PCC Engineered Products Division Leadership Team. The Division Senior Director of Quality plans and assists in the development and implementation of the division-wide Quality Management System, including leading the assessment and maintenance of its effectiveness.
Plans, develops, establishes, evaluates, and refines the processes through which PCC Engineered Products manufactures its products.
Represents and safeguards PCC Engineered Products interests with respect to product quality, while ensuring plants achieve the requirements of their customers and regulatory agencies.
Expectations are to define and lead the implementation and sustaining effort to integrate quality into processes and products to assure customer / regulatory requirements are achieved while also achieving business objectives.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities :
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Providing strong Quality leadership and direction to the PCC Engineered Products Plants, helping to keep the team aligned to achieve strong internal quality performance and a positive external quality image for PCC EPD.
- Guiding all external Quality related discussions affecting PCC Engineered Products QMS and products.
- Oversight and evaluation of the effectiveness of all PCC Engineered Products quality assessment activities.
- Establishing a Zero Defects culture through training and deployment of the Zero Defects toolkit, including Quality Planning, 8D problem solving and Human Factors.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Guides the development and maintenance of the QMS to ensure it meets all industry and / or customer requirements.
- Engineering reviews of customer inquiries, orders and requirements including management of the PCC Engineered Products processes to review external specifications.
- Establishes the manufacturing and inspection processes required to ensure compliance with customer requirements. Liaises with the Research and Development department as necessary.
- Primary facilitator of all customer contact for process, inspection technology and application, process definition.
- Represents the Division as necessary on all matters and advises management as appropriate.
- Manages the PCC Engineered Products product certification system including oversight of all internal and external laboratory and product quality testing.
- Manages the Quality Documentation System, ensuring the system meets all third party, end user, and customer requirements to maintain all mandatory accreditations and qualifications.
- Assists the organization to establish metrics, collect and analyze data to highlight improvement opportunities to eliminate escapes, reduce scrap and rework, improve yield and improve customer satisfaction.
- Supports sites in the event of a quality escape, ensuring the 8D problem solving process is applied effectively to identify true root causes and establish permanent corrective actions through engineered solutions.
- Assists senior leaders in preparing the Quality Schedules ahead of each Monthly Operations Review and attends Reviews as required to represent the EPD Division Quality function.
- Oversees all external audit requirements. Ownership for the PCC Engineered Products internal auditing system. Leads the organization to realize improvement through positive reaction to all non-conformances through appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
- Primary facilitator of all external contact with respect to material certification, internal quality system documents, corrective actions, third-party auditors and accreditations.
- Facilitates best practice sharing across all plants with respect to the Quality Management System and the use of the Zero Defects toolkit.
- Ensures employees in the Quality function have the necessary training and skills to perform their roles effectively and supports Human Resources in succession planning for critical Quality roles.
- Represents PCC Engineered Products on the PCC Quality Council.
- Makes recommendations for personnel decisions and performs competency assessments and performance reviews.
- Completes various other assignments and duties as assigned.
- Reports Division Quality metrics to Executive leadership at Operational Reviews.
Required Skills :
- The ability to read and write English.
- Computer literacy is a requirement.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with executives / customers and a change agent approach with strong functional team building abilities.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail are critical.
- Ability to work in a high-pressure environment.
Experience & Education
- BS in Engineering Degree required (strongly preferred in field of Materials Engineering).
- 7 years of post-baccalaureate experience as a manager of quality assurance and 5 years managing multiple locations, while managing quality manager, with specific experience including :
- Managing quality assurance functions in a manufacturing facility.
- Conducting technical investigations related to Quality issues and summarizing findings in detailed technical reports.
- Leading Zero Defects and similar Quality improvements initiatives across multiple sites.
- Experience in Mechanical and Non-Destructive Testing of materials including tensile testing, impact testing, ultrasonic testing.
- Prior experience required in ISO 9001 / AS9100 site accreditation.
- ASQ certifications and FAA repair experience are a plus.
Physical Requirements
- May require up to 60% travel to different sites, suppliers, or customer locations, both locally and internationally.
- Ability to move freely around the facility, including the warehouse, production floor, and office areas.
- Walking and standing for extended periods, often on concrete or uneven surfaces.
- Occasionally lifting and carrying items, typically not exceeding 30 pounds.
- Moving and positioning materials or equipment as needed.
- Comfortable working in various environments, including offices, warehouses, and manufacturing floors.
- Exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures, and the ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when required.
