Director of Development for Alumni and Community Engagement

UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

Reporting to the Associate Dean for Advancement, the leads the strategy and implementation of exciting programs, projects, and events that strategically engage UNC School of Law alumni.

This will be established by creating new initiatives and strengthening existing programs that supply tangible benefits to the law school’s alumni, friends, students, and school partners.

This leadership opportunity within the Advancement Office will serve as an ambassador of the law school and secures commitments from alumni to contribute professional expertise and volunteer services as needed for leadership boards, events and collaborative opportunities.

Collaborating and partnering with colleagues both internally (including Career Development, Student Development, Admissions, Pro Bono, and senior leadership) and in the university administrative offices (including, but not limited to UDO, Carolina Alumni and campus-wide Schools and Units) to maintain existing and create new pathways that engage alumni to advance the goals of the law school.

The director will partner with law school advancement team colleagues to help identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward alumni giving.

This exciting and vibrant position will serve as a liaison between the Alumni Board(s) of Directors and the academic and administrative leadership.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with related experience.

For positions with responsibility for direct solicitation of gifts and funds, a minimum of 1 year of professional-level, direct solicitation / fundraising experience is required.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Demonstrative success executing events. Ability to maintain confidentiality, high energy level, integrity, and sincerity.

Requires adaptability, good judgment, and innovative skills along with a willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of progressive event management tasks and resources.

Exercise confidence in strategy and decision making. Ability to multi-task, think creatively, create implementation plans and manage a heavy workload utilizing industry-standard computer software / databases such as Microsoft Office, Blackbaud, event management platforms.

Attention to detail and analytical abilities are necessary for the successful candidate. Ability to collaborate effectively with people of all ages and backgrounds, community leaders, as well as students, patients, families, volunteers, and employee.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Seven years of proven experience in alumni relations, sales, marketing, or event planning.

Seven or more years of alumni engagement experience in higher education or non- profit organization, specifically experience in alumni engagement, volunteer management, and event planning.

Knowledge of alumni and community engagement programs, volunteer management, and alumni board management. Special Physical / Mental Requirements Campus Security Authority Responsibilities
