The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Assistant / Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine.
Role of the Position
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine is seeking to expand the Psychiatry faculty.
These positions include patient care in the outpatient, consultation-liaison setting with both adults, adolescents and children in addition to key leadership and education positions for medical student education in the department.
The Department of Psychiatry is the home to a successful general psychiatry residency program that recruits 10 new residents per year, a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship program and a newly approved Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship program.
Clinical practice in the department focuses on consultation-liaison services, outpatient services at Mojave counseling, a multidisciplinary community mental health clinic, and in other public mental health settings.
Educational opportunities include working with residents in a clinical and didactic setting, medical school curriculum development and precepting for third- and fourth-year medical students.
The Department of Psychiatry in Las Vegas is responsible for the training of approximately 45 Psychiatry residents and fellows.
The program is affiliated with University Medical Center (UMC) and offers a comprehensive mix of inpatient and ambulatory teaching experiences.
The department's goal is to ensure that each resident and fellow possesses the knowledge, procedural skills, critical thinking and professionalism required to succeed as a psychiatrist.
The SOM Faculty Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure (FAPT) Committee will use the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV (SOM) promotion criteria to recommend rank to the Dean of the SOM.
Tenure consideration may be given upon hire on a case by case basis depending on verified previous credentials, the FAPT recommendation, and SOM Dean's recommendation.

Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate must have an M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited institution.
Supervise psychiatry residents in various settings and engage in curriculum development and didactic teaching of students and residents.
Maintain a clinical practice within a multidisciplinary team in a community mental health outpatient setting.
Participate in clinical scholarship, mentoring residents in the production of abstracts, and case reports.
Demonstrate leadership and conflict resolution skills among people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds.
Participate in service activities in the department and school of medicine that may include committees for resident and student curriculum and various faculty affairs
Successful completion of an accredited Psychiatry Residency by the time of hire.
Must be ABPN certified in general psychiatry within 2 years of hire date.
The preferred candidate will have experience working in acute care hospitals or community mental health
In addition, the candidate will have experience with resident and student teaching and supervision.
Candidates must be able to possess and maintain a Nevada State Board of Pharmacy license and DEA License. Nevada medical license must be obtained prior to the start date.
