PRINCIPAL POWER ENGINEER
Overview
We are a renowned electrical power and control systems engineering firm looking to hire a qualified Principal Power Engineer in Long Beach, CA.
This position will contribute to the expansion of our electrical power capabilities.
Key Qualifications and Skills
Minimum of 5 years' experience in developing comprehensive electrical construction and specification packages suitable for approval by a Professional Engineer and authority plan check.
This should include : Conducting load studies Creating single line diagrams Preparing plot plan and area / building detail diagrams Designing lighting systems Ensuring proper grounding Developing conduit and cable schedules Writing construction specifications Designing equipment and installation details Additional experience in the following drawings is preferred : Area classification drawings Creating motor / breaker schematics and wiring diagrams Implementing lightning protection measures Thorough knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC), IEEE 3000 Series (formerly known as color books), and API 500 (preferred) Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Excel Prior experience with power system modeling tools such as ETAP, SKM, or EasyPower is preferred Experience with electrical power relay settings generation and implementation is preferred, particularly with GE Multilin and SEL Strong written and verbal communication skills
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam Completion... Preferred : Professional Engineer License or ability to obtain licensure within 2 years
Responsibilities
- Lead the development of electrical power load studies
- Oversee the creation of comprehensive electrical power construction packages that can be approved by a Professional Engineer and submitted for authority plan check
- Develop comprehensive electrical power specifications for company construction packages
- Create bills of material for electrical power equipment and collaborate with vendors for pricing
- Perform field verification walkthroughs, including as-building existing Electrical and E&I infrastructure
- Conduct factory acceptance testing on electrical power equipment
- Execute start-up and commissioning, troubleshooting electrical power and E&I systems as necessary
- Provide after hours support for internal / external clients as needed
- Collaborate with Project Manager(s) to ensure quality of deliverables, maintain budget, etc. Keep Project Manager(s) informed of technical progress, issues, and change order requirements
- Assist Project Manager(s) in developing cost estimates and proposals for new projects, providing technical expertise and guidance in cost allocation for labor, expenses, and procurement items
- Travel approximately 25%, including air travel
