The Oracle Database Administrator position is responsible for the comprehensive management of mission-critical database systems, including backup, recovery, server architecture, performance tuning, security, and optimization.
Oracle Database Administrator Job Details
The Oracle Database Administrator is responsible for ensuring the operational functionality and efficiency of databases, including :
- Building and maintaining database performance, availability, reliability, security, and recoverability.
- Performing capacity planning to meet corporate database and processing demands.
- Ensuring compliance with security, change management, backup, and recovery regulations.
- Providing database solutions for complex business issues, including data processing and replication.
- Diagnosing and resolving database-related issues such as storage, performance, and security.
- Automating database management, maintenance, and data processing activities.
- Developing scripts for system maintenance and automation.
- Acting as a subject matter expert for Oracle relational database management systems.
- Modifying databases and directing changes in database objects like indexes, tables, and procedures.
- Coordinating database development and determining project scope and limitations.
- Writing and coding logical and physical database descriptions.
- Estimating time and cost for database-related projects.
- Developing standards and guidelines for software use and information protection.
- Administering database objects including tables, indexes, and sequences.
- Evaluating and implementing Oracle and third-party product releases.
- Providing technical support for databases, applications, and development tools.
- Participating in an on-call rotation to support a 24 / 7 environment and working outside business hours as needed.
- Installing, configuring, and administering Oracle Golden Gate replication and troubleshooting related processes.
- Using Commvault for database backups, restore, and recoveries.
- Utilizing OEM for database performance tuning and report generation.
- Collaborating with various technical and non-technical resources on projects and troubleshooting.
- Analyzing operating system statistics and troubleshooting performance issues.
- Upgrading Oracle databases and configuring Oracle Data Guard.
- Performing Unix (AIX) and Linux tasks related to Oracle.
- Configuring Oracle Multitenant database environments.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Oracle Database Administrator Mandatory Skills
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Information Systems, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- Minimum of six years’ experience in a Production Oracle ecosystem or higher education equivalent.
- Minimum of four years’ experience in :
- Oracle database administration in UNIX and virtual environments.
- Detailed performance analysis and resource utilization of systems.
- Oracle backups, restores, and recovery models.
- High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for Oracle (RAC / Data Guard).
- Migrating code and database changes through various development stages.
- Troubleshooting and performance tuning with Oracle databases.
- Project management concepts and tools (e.g., MS Project).
- Serving as a technology subject matter expert for at least three versions of Oracle relational database management systems.
- Installation, configuration, and administration of Oracle Golden Gate replication.
- OEM troubleshooting of database performance and report generation.
- Using Recovery Manager (RMAN) and ASM for backups and storage management.
Oracle Database Administrator Desired Skills
- Strong organizational skills, task management, and teamwork abilities.
- Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License.
- Ability to make independent recommendations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, email, and scheduling.
