PRIMARY PURPOSE : Under general supervision, perform the application / preparation of paints, enamels, acrylics, stains, and lacquers to finish and protect interior and exterior surfaces, buildings, and other structures using hand brushing and power-driven painting equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Demonstrates ability to perform responsibilities under general supervision.
  • High School graduate or GED equivalent from an accredited institution (required)
  • Demonstrates a general knowledge of various types of interior and exterior paints, solvents, primers, stains, acrylics, lacquers, epoxies, and other industrial coatings
  • Demonstrates general knowledge and ability to use paint spray equipment, power equipment or hand application of said paints and coatings.
  • Must maintain a valid Texas driver license to operate district vehicles.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Have general knowledge and the ability to apply various types of paints to the interior and exterior structures using approved industry standards.

Including paints, primers, stains, acrylics, lacquers and epoxies, and other approved coatings, by hand or using spray equipment.

  • Have a general knowledge and the ability to construct and use scaffolding, extension ladders, and hydraulic lift buckets for exterior painting
  • Prepare interior and exterior surfaces, fixtures, and structures by sanding, filling holes, cracks, and joints with caulking or approved materials.
  • Have general knowledge and ability to use power equipment related to the painting trade i.e., airless spray equipment, power sanders, texture machines, and line laser stripping machines.
  • Have general knowledge and the ability to tape, bed and texturing of sheetrock / drywall materials.
  • Have general knowledge to install vinyl wall coverings and other approved wall fabrics.
  • Have a general knowledge and ability to prepare paint to match specified colors by mixing with color tints, using approved equipment or by hand.
  • Clean and maintain painting equipment after each use; including brushes, rollers, and power equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records for labor, materials and hours worked, and submit information into the work order tracking system.
  • Follow district safety guidelines, using good safety practices for operating hand and power tools and equipment as needed for job completion.

Wear safety equipment as assigned, at all times.

  • Communicate effectively with principals, department heads, district staff, and other auxiliary services personnel, contractors, and vendors in a professional manner in all phases necessary to locate, correct, repair and complete each project.
  • An employee may be required to respond to after hour / emergency call outs, be placed on an emergency call out rotation and flex work hours to accommodate job completion.
  • Perform all other duties and tasks as assigned.

EQUIPMENT USED : Power, hand and pneumatic tools, brushes, rollers, spray machines, drills, saws, man lifts, scaffolds and ladders, and two-way communication devices.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. Regularly exposed to such environmental conditions as moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles outdoor weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock.

Regularly required to travel to facilities throughout the district and the community.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, move throughout the room and or facility, communicate verbally and electronically, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, ability to work overhead, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, and or crawl;

climb; balance, and drive. An employee may be required to work on the knees from time to time.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to lift or exert a force of up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust and focus.
  • Must be able to safely tolerate the elements as required for the craft. Be able to work off the scaffolding and a minimum of a 40-foot ladder.
