Seton Hall University is hiring a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Philosophy to begin in the Fall 2024. AOS in Bioethics.
AOC is open. This faculty member will teach a range of undergraduate courses in bioethics, medical ethics, and medical humanities and have opportunity to advise students and develop curricular and extra curricular programming in applied ethics and medical humanities.
Duties and Responsibilities :
Teaching, scholarship, and service.
The faculty member will be expected to serve at least a three-year term as director of our Medical Humanities program
- As director, the faculty member will : (1) lead refinement and development of this relatively new program, including creating or facilitating new applied humanities coursework in areas like narrative medicine;
- 2) cultivate greater collaboration and participation from the College of Nursing and School of Health and Medical Sciences (SHMS) through promotional work and efforts to integrate curricula;
3) apply for grants to support medical humanities initiatives; and (4) advise students in the program.
The typical teaching load for tenure-track faculty at Seton Hall is 3-3, but the Director position may come with course release commensurate with the size of the program.
The faculty member’s course load will include sections of bioethics, upper division courses in philosophy, and an annual course on medical or healthcare ethics at SHMS.
Required Qualifications :
Promise of excellence in scholarship as well as undergraduate teaching.
A in Philosophy is required prior to appointment.
