Job Summary :

The Director of Development will secure private and voluntary support from alumni and friends for UT Arlington and the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs.

Manage a portfolio to identify, qualify, and cultivate potential major gift donors. Solicit constituents in collaboration with academic leadership and ensure proper recognition and stewardship.

Collaborate with colleagues in Development and Alumni Relations and within the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs to develop and advance fundraising strategies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Responsible for the management of 65-80 potential or actual donors. Make personal contact, including in-person visits, with a portfolio of individuals and, when appropriate, corporate representatives and foundation officers to build relationships and secure major gifts for the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs in coordination with the Dean.
  • Serve as an integral team member for the Dean of the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs; and work closely with the leadership, faculty, and staff in the College to develop and advance fundraising strategies.

Participate in strategic engagement opportunities for the College.

Work closely with the Senior Director of Regional Development and University Initiatives to complete fundraising projects related to the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs and other special constituencies as assigned.

Work collaboratively with colleagues in Development and Alumni Relations.

Performs all other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications :

A bachelor’s degree with five (5) years of experience in major gift fundraising and with a solid track record of securing major gifts, or related and transferable experience from corporate, community or philanthropic organizations.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Seven (7) or more years of experience in major gift fundraising with a proven track record of success securing gifts at the six-figure level and higher.
  • Experience managing volunteers.
  • Prior work history at an institution of higher education.
  • Prior experience fundraising for a College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs or other academic unit.
  • Experience with capital campaigns.
  • Experience using Blackbaud (Raiser’s Edge NXT), or other Advancement databases.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • A high degree of professionalism and customer service.
  • Professional organizational skills and ability to set and meet appropriate deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with high attention to follow through.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, TEAMs). Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of gift planning instruments and the ability to market them to alumni and other prospective donors.
  • Ability to work with a diverse student body, staff, and constituents is preferred.
  • A demonstrated ability to design and implement effective cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies.
  • A very professional work ethic supported by commitment and follow-through.
  • A solid commitment to the University and College’s mission and values.
  • Superior communication skills with the ability to speak credibly about higher education and the aspirations of the University and College and be able to deliver effective written and oral presentations.
  • Ability to travel extensively for meetings and to participate regularly in events and activities.
  • Ability to manage complex relationships and be a proven collaborator with teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work in a system that emphasizes measurable objectives, including goals and metrics for major gift activity and dollars raised.

Other Requirements :

Use of a personal vehicle for work-related local travel.
