Role description :

Arcadis is seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Engineering Construction Project Manager to lead a significant tunnel project from inception through to completion in the New York / New Jersey area.

This position offers a unique opportunity to lead and contribute to a transformative tunnel project, leveraging your expertise in project management and civil engineering.

Join our team and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of urban infrastructure. This role requires a seasoned professional with extensive experience in project management, particularly in civil rail projects, including structural elements, tunnels (both bored and cut-and-cover), utilities, and associated infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction management with a focus on delivering projects using the P2A delivery method.

Role accountabilities :

  • Oversee all aspects of the tunnel project, including planning, design, procurement, construction, and closeout phases.
  • Develop and execute project plans, schedules, budgets, and resource allocation strategies to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Manage project teams, subcontractors, and vendors to achieve project milestones, quality standards, and safety goals.
  • Coordinate with design teams, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure design intent is met and implemented effectively during construction.
  • Monitor and control project progress, expenditures, and risk factors to mitigate potential delays or cost overruns.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols, quality assurance / control measures, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Lead project meetings, prepare and present project status reports to stakeholders, and facilitate effective communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage procurement activities, including bid evaluations, contract negotiations, and subcontractor agreements.
  • Resolve conflicts and issues that arise during the project promptly and effectively.
  • Ensure all project documentation, including contracts, change orders, and closeout documents, are accurate and completed on time.

Qualifications & Experience :

  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in project management, with a focus on civil rail projects, including tunnel construction, structural elements, and utilities.
  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong understanding of P2A delivery method and its application in civil infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated success in managing large-scale construction projects from design through to completion.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively manage multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proven ability to manage project budgets, schedules, and resources efficiently.
  • Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and regulatory requirements related to civil infrastructure projects.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools for scheduling, budgeting, and reporting.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Masters degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Professional certifications such as CCM, PE, PMP (Project Management Professional) or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in tunnel projects, particularly in urban environments or complex terrain.
  • Local presence or familiarity with the regional regulatory environment and industry practices.
