Summary

Develops and implements aCorporate-approved orientation program for all employees withemphasis on regulatory issues surrounding long term care (LTC) andBethesda values and mission.

Conducts General Orientation usingCorporate guidelines incorporating relevant OSHA and Federal andState regulations into the program.

Incorporates staff and residentsafety (i.e., emergency preparedness, fire safety, security, injuryprevention), and the teaching program for those staff dealingdirectly and indirectly with the Alzheimer resident.

Coordinatesand monitors orientation activities throughout orientation.Provides input into evaluation of the orientee and recommendsrelease from or extension of orientation based on evaluation oflearning needs.

Assists with mentor programs. Promotes a culture ofstaff development by being open and encouraging about the workenvironment.

Develops lesson plans and conducts in-service programsincluding mandatory in-services. Other programs are identified byneeds assessment of the staff, results of State surveys,introduction of new products, services and technology.

In-servicesnew and revised policies and procedures. All onsite programs aregiven in sufficient number and at sufficient times to meet theneeds of the staff.

Teach staff basic computer skills as related totheir job duties. Properly instruct staff how to access and use theonline education programs as a part of the overall in-serviceeducation program.

Works closely with the Director of Nursing (DON)particularly in the promotion of teamwork and quality care issues.Provides input into the appraisal process of staff, particularlyduring orientation.

Acts as a resource for Managers relative to thedepartment's orientation, in-service and staff development needs.As requested, conducts the state-approved Nurse Assistant TrainingProgram or CMT program using the directions as set forth in stateregulations.

Classes are organized, students are monitored, and anacceptable fail / pass ratio is achieved. Acts as a resource personfor the nurse assistants and monitors their progress.

Develops andimplements an ongoing infection prevention and control program toprevent, recognize, and control the onset and spread of infectionsin order to provide a safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment.

Establishes facility-wide systems for the prevention,identification, reporting, investigation, and control of infectionsand communicable diseases of residents, staff, and visitors.

Develops and implements written policies and procedures inaccordance with current standards of practice and recognizedguidelines for infection prevention and control.

Oversees thefacility's antibiotic stewardship program. Oversees resident careactivities that increase risk of infection (i.

e., use and care ofurinary catheters, wound care, incontinence care, skin care,point-of-care blood testing, and medication injections).

Leads thefacility's Infection and Prevention Control Committee. Developsaction plans to address opportunities for improvement.

Participateson the facility's QAA Committee. Implements an annual infectioncontrol risk assessment process and participates in the facility'sannual assessment review process.

Reviews and / or revises thefacility's infection prevention and control program, its standards,policies, and procedures annually and as needed for changes to thefacility assessment to ensure they are effective and in accordancewith current standards of practice for preventing and controllinginfections.

Provides education to staff, residents, and families(where appropriate). Ensures public health is notified ofreportable diseases.

Collaborates with other departments infulfilling requirements related to occupational health and safety.(I.e. employee health).

Maintains documentation of infectionprevention and control program activities. Informs the DON of theindividual needs of the Staff Development functions as it relatesto budgeting.

Assists the DON in the assessment of needs forresident care equipment during budget preparation. Is aware of andpromotes the compliance program throughout the facility.

Participates in the continuous quality improvement (QAPI)activities established by the organization by looking at allresident care processes with an intent to identify areas forimprovement.

Prepares concise and timely QAPI reports, as required.Develops educational programs based on needs identified throughQAPI activities, attends various meetings and provides reports asrequested.

Attends local professional educator's meetings andBethesda monthly meetings. Sets individual goals and reviews withthe DON.

Serves as a role model to the staff. Actively pursueseducation related to job. Keeps current in nursing issues(geriatrics, management, legislative.

May be assigned other dutiesas appropriate.

JobQualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing
  • BSN or related baccalaureate preparation in educationpreferred
  • Current RN license in the state thatyou will be working
  • CPR / AED certificationrequired or willing to obtain within six months ofemployment
  • Certified as a CPR instructor ishigh desirable
  • Certified as an Instructor forthe Missouri Nurse Assistant Training program and CMT instructorcertification preferred
  • Completed specializedtraining in infection prevention and control through accreditedcontinuing education
  • Minimum of five years ofrecent clinical nursing experience required
  • Educational and supervisory / management experiencepreferred
  • Previous experience in long-termcare required
  • Ability to manage time andorganize daily schedule to meet productivity standards
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite andother programs such as EMR
  • Possessesintegrity, initiative, and loyalty
  • Mustpossess good communication skills and demonstrates ability to teachadults
  • Ability to stand and walk for longperiods of time
  • Ability to lift heavy objectsusing proper lifting techniques and with assistance asnecessary
  • Ability to transfer and moveresidents who vary with ability to assist weighing 200+lbs usingproper lifting techniques and with assistance asnecessary
  • Ability to push and pull equipmentweighing in excess of 40lbs using proper techniques and withassistance as necessary
  • Manual dexterity,coordination and skillful use of hands when working with residentsand equipment
  • Ability to perform necessarydocumentation
  • Visual acuity
  • Must be able to manage a diversity ofactivities
  • Good organization, criticalthinking, problem solving, and mentoring skills
  • High degree of ability in using tact, diplomacy anddiscretion
  • Must be able to concentrate withfrequent interruptions and multiple distractions
  • A preference for understanding and responding to thephysical and psychosocial needs of the geriatric populationrequired
