In cooperation with the Head Teacher and other team members, the Assistant Teacher will establish and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment for children, teachers, and parents.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include :
- Setting an organizational and emotional tone for the classroom that is responsive to children, parents, and teachers.
- Assessing the educational and developmental needs of each child
- Planning and implementing a curriculum that will enhance the development of the children in all areas (cognitive, physical, social, emotional), with an awareness of the needs of each child
- Promoting positive and productive relationships with parents, between parents, and between parents and other staff, and educating and supporting parents as necessary
- Approach issues and problems professionally and self-reflectively, work cooperatively with colleagues, and attend staff meetings, professional conferences, and engage in ongoing staff development
- Must enjoy working with children and be able to document learning visibly throughout the classroom
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher preferred; educational emphasis in early childhood education or infant and family development preferred.
Excellent understanding of child and adult development, strong verbal and written communication skills, interest in and knowledge of early childhood education curriculum, ability to work collaboratively with a team, good organizational and management skills, flexibility, and a sense of humor.
Must be able to engage in a full range of motion, stand and walk for extended periods, bending, pushing, pulling, squatting, climbing, running, getting up and down from the floor with ease, and walking on even and uneven surfaces.
Must be able to lift, hold, and carry up to 50 pounds. Must be able to reach above the shoulders, have corrected hearing and vision to normal range, as well as hand grasping, touching, manual dexterity, and hand-eye control.
Must be able to perform diaper changes and fully participate in classroom activities. Must be able to supervise and interact with children outdoors for extended periods in variable weather conditions.
The work environment includes art materials, disinfecting solutions, noise, dirt / dust, fumes / odors, temperature changes, and potential exposure to children or adults who are ill or contagious and are subject to unpredictable situations / emergencies.

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on various factors, including but not limited to organizational budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.
The hiring range provided represents The Rockefeller University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
