Position Summary :

The Nursing Research & Magnet Program Coordinator is responsible for leading the nursing department through the process of incorporating ANCC's Magnet Recognition components into everyday evidenced-based practice.

The position will be responsible for completing assessments on organizational compliance through ongoing nursing innovations, research and outcomes audits / analysis.

This position is responsible for gathering, writing and submitting documents to stay compliant with all Magnet data reporting and educating all hospital staff on the strategies that lead to lasting change.

This position is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating nursing-led research initiatives, using evidence-based methodologies and ensuring a balance with the EBP / research needs of Craig nursing practice within the context of care which it is delivered.

Position Requirements :

Licensure / Certification / Registrations : Current Colorado RN license and current BLS for the Health Care Provider certification from the American Heart Association are required.

Board certification in Magnet approved, specialty area relevant to the Craig care environment required.

Education : - A Master's degree in nursing or relevant field is required. A graduate of a CCNE or NLNAC accredited school of nursing is preferred.

A graduate of a nursing program from an accredited college or university is required.

Experience : Minimum 3 or more years of experience with patients with neurologic injury. Experience coordinating or participating in a Magnet program is preferred.

Leadership experience preferred.

Skills & Abilities : Must have knowledge of the Magnet standards and program knowledge. Able to design and interpret EBP / research.

The ability to translate and promote EBP / research to the nursing department and patient bedside. Must have the ability to translate and operationalize abstract and conceptual information and to apply principles of adult education when communicating / teaching one-on-one and groups.

Excellent organization, communication and customer service skills. The ability to successfully handle multiple priorities and prioritize and schedule accordingly.

Able to set deadlines and follow through. Work collaboratively with other departments and physicians. The ability to develop research policies and programs and operational policies and procedures.

The ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the position. Proven analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.

The ability to make formal presentations in front of large groups. Creative and able to be an "out of the box" thinker. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Adobe,Google Docs.

Essential Functions :

  • Promote and inspire others to meet the Magnet philosophy throughout Craig Hospital. Using an interdisciplinary approach, act as a change agent and support the roles of consultant, practitioner, educator, and administrator to maintain quality care and positive patient outcomes.
  • Ongoing communication with CNO with any barriers encountered to maintain Magnet designation
  • Practice according to the ANA Code of Ethics and within the scope of an RN according to the Colorado Nurse Practice Act.
  • Communicate data dashboards to effectively communicate patient care quality to every staff member within the nursing department, on a regular basis
  • Integrate nursing research with quality assessment and improvement activities to identify patient care problems, evaluate changes in practice, and develop research-based standards and protocols.
  • Coordinate an assessment of Magnet readiness / gap analysis, submitting the application for and all ongoing documents for Magnet Recognition on time, verifying that all requirements are met, and designing and implementing a process to maintain Magnet performance requirements, in anticipation of future re-application for Magnet status.
  • Work collaboratively with Nursing Leadership, the Director of Quality, Executive Director of Research and Evaluation and other departments to ensure all required data for NDNQI submissions is collected, validated, and submitted timely each quarter.

This role is responsible for communicating and educating relevant departments on changes to NDNQI data requirements.

  • Promote hospital standards for superior customer service by exhibiting positive, courteous, and helpful behavior when dealing with all internal and external customers.
  • Assist nursing leadership in writing policies and procedures that are consistent with the Magnet philosophy and Quality Improvement initiatives.
  • Assist nursing leadership throughout the organization to ensure nurses are informed and updated on an ongoing basis about Magnet program initiatives, developments and progress.
  • Develop ways to use evidence-informed knowledge and research in nursing department practices
