CERTIFIED PHARMACY TECHNICIAN - Per Diem-(3292413)
Description
Working under the general direction the Associate Chief of Inpatient Operations, Pharmacy Managers and Lead Technicians, the Pharmacy Technician may rotate throughout the various assigned areas.
All technicians are responsible for answering phones, attending staff meetings, providing support to the pharmacists, checking expiration dates on medications and assisting in other areas as needed.
Technicians must be able to pass both licensure and area specific competences. National Certification required in most areas.
In the Central Area : Working under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist and / or Lead Technician the Technician receives orders and labels for medications, selects proper drug, dosage form and strength.
Enters orders into computer, scans labels and delivers medications to nursing units, assists customers on the phone and at the window.
Picks and restocks meds into automated dispensing machines located on inpatient units. Responsible for inventory management, checking expiration dates and processing returns.
Interacts with other healthcare professionals.
- In the Customer Service Area : Manages incoming telephone calls from inpatient units regarding missing medications; triages calls to appropriate person / area;
- distinguishes routine functions from those requiring pharmacist intervention; resolves missing medication issues; helps with window service during down times;
uses effective time management skills to handle multiple tasks under time constraints; uses exceptional communication / customer skills to resolve issues and maintain excellent working relationships with others (including physicians, nurses, pharmacy personnel, and others).
- In the Omnicell Area : Responsible for medication management on the nursing unit. Prints reports; gathers medications; refills Omnicell cabinets;
- checks expiration dates; updates dispensing locations; checks external medications and code cart backup supplies; maintains documentation;
- trouble-shoots problems with equipment; reboots equipment; communicates regularly with nursing unit personnel; brings return medications to Pharmacy;
acts as liaison with Omnicell pharmacists and central pharmacists
Qualifications
The ability to speak the English language, read, interpret and follow complicated verbal and written instruction with precision, accuracy and dependability.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail, ability to work independently, math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ratios / proportions) and ability to meet deadlines are all required.
Current MA Pharmacy Technician license required.
National Certification required.
High School diploma or GED Equivalency required.
