POSITION SUMMARY :
The Instructional Coach provides support and leadership in the delivery of effective, standards- based and research-based curriculum, instruction and assessment to improve student achievement in world language instruction.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Implement the instructional coaching cycle to provide systematic, individual learning opportunities for a portfolio of identified world language teachers
- Collaborate with school and district leadership teams to plan and facilitate school, district, community of practice, and network based professional learning
- Assist with the implementation of a world language district curriculum, instruction, and assessments
- Participate fully in professional learning for coaches
- Remain current in the research that supports adult learning, coaching, curriculum, instruction, and assessment in the assigned content areas
- Manage the tasks specific to the assignment as provided by immediate supervisors
- Engage teachers in continuous improvement with focus on evidence-informed learning and analytical reflection of instructional practices
- Facilitate conversations using data to drive instructional decisions
- Lead and support district implementation of the seal of biliteracy
- Support and monitor the implementation of effective strategies and practices for world language instruction
- Other duties as assigned by Director English Learner Services, Dual and World Language Programs
QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS / ABILITIES OF IDEAL CANDIDATE :
- Master’s degree in education and a minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience
- Effective implementation of coaching cycles
- Understanding of adult learning and effective professional learning facilitation
- Knowledge of world-readiness standards for learning languages
- Understanding of student-centered learning and research-based practices for improving teaching and learning
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with instructional methods and best practices for world language instruction
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of global literacy and cultural proficiency
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in an educational setting
- Demonstrated knowledge of best practices related to the integration of technology, curriculum implementation, and creating optimal environments for language learning
- Experience gathering data and monitoring progress toward learning goals
- Experience working with culturally, socially, and economically diverse student and family populations
- Bilingual (Spanish / English)
- Elementary and Secondary World Language experience
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :
- Certification in one of the following World Languages : 018, 021, 023, 101, 024
- Connecticut Certification for all grades K-12 Reading (102), TESOL (111)
- Or Elementary (305) and Secondary English (015) certifications, or either certification and an Intermediate Administration (092)
- Connecticut Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certification. Preferred at hire or required to receive within 2 years of employment.
- Successful applicants without TESOL certification will be required to participate in a district funded ARCTELL program and receive TESOL certification within two years of hire.
SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : Salary Grid : In accordance with the Hartford Federation of Teachers (HFT) contract. ($47,464 - $104,837)
