The Harley-Davidson Motor Company Product Development Center (PDC) located in Wauwatosa, WI is home to the mantra - You dream it.

We build it. Join our team as a General Manager, Global Advanced Manufacturing.

Harley-Davidson's global manufacturing footprint includes three domestic and two international manufacturing locations responsible for the machining, fabrication, injection molding, painting, material handling, packaging, and assembly of powertrains, styled surfaces, and vehicles.

Job Summary :

The GM of Global Advanced Manufacturing (GAM) is responsible for delivering the new product life cycle plan (LCP) within global manufacturing operations, leading innovation and automation of manufacturing processes, and owning manufacturing processes through the establishment of manufacturing standards and requirements.

This position is also responsible for the global packaging of inbound and make components required within the production of motorcycles, finished motorcycle delivery to worldwide dealers, and global distribution of service parts and accessories.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Lead team of Chief Engineers, Managers, and Staff to deliver the LCP for manufacturing and packaging.
  • Develop, set, and maintain manufacturing and packaging requirements for product development.
  • Work closely with engineering, quality and manufacturing teams to develop, set, and maintain design, manufacturing, and quality control requirements for identification and management of safety and quality risks to create and enhance strong DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plan closed-loop early and continuously through the development and launch process.
  • Lead organizational and cultural transformation efforts within product development. Advocate and lead change management within the organization.
  • Provide clear and concise direction, goals, and strategies to team members.
  • Lead team to establish and implement employee engagement actions.
  • Establish technology roadmaps centered on advancing the current state of capabilities primarily focused in manufacturing process and materials, manufacturing efficiency, quality, and cost.
  • Conduct portfolio management by developing, maintaining, scoping and prioritizing future project lists.
  • Assess and mature both internal and external technology, and lead teams that work on the forefront of enterprise-wide manufacturing process development.
  • Mentor and motivate direct and indirect reports through development and performance planning.
  • Display impeccable written and verbal communication skills employing visible leadership and personal communication.
  • Establish new product launch strategy for development and launch readiness deliverables.
  • Create meaningful relationships with cross-functional product development and operations stakeholders built on a foundation of trust and accountability.
  • Promote, practice and protect the Harley-Davidson policies, company values, leadership behaviors, and #1 principles.
  • Exude strong program management skills and maintain a pulse on program status while addressing and adapting to real-time risks and issues.
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead and gain results through the influence of peers and senior leaders.

  • Accountable for delivering new models and new products with world class manufacturing performance utilizing operational excellence and lean methodologies on all safety, quality, delivery, cost, people, and sustainability measures.
  • Assure attainment of key business metrics within product development and manufacturing operations.
  • Own measured results and drive corrective actions when targets are not met.
  • Champion corporate policies, systems, and work instructions within product development and manufacturing operations.
  • Develop, set, and maintain the global packaging strategy
  • Responsible for resource assignments and coordination / execution of operational plans.

Relevant Experience :

  • The position requires a minimum of 20 years of leadership experience in product development or operations.
  • Bachelor's degree Required.
  • Experience leading R&D organizations in advanced manufacturing.
  • Experience developing AI roadmap for manufacturing organizations.
  • Experience in the automotive, off-highway, all terrain, or all purpose vehicle industries is preferred.
  • Ability to be firm, fair, and consistent in decision-making and able to professionally provide objective feedback
  • Demonstrated proficiency in leading and managing effective teams.
  • Must be knowledgeable of industry quality standards and processes - APQP, 8D, ISO, PPAP, DFSS, etc.
  • Must be knowledgeable of general engineering and manufacturing development processes and tools - DFMEA, DVP&R, PFMEA, Control Plan, etc.
  • Expertise in budgeting, cash management, and cost controls. Ability to capture significant savings through process improvements, innovations, and budget management.
  • Subject matter expert in the execution of product development, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Demonstrated capability of executing advanced development and development projects with suppliers.
  • Extensive experience identifying, vetting, and developing new suppliers.
  • Track record of transferring new capabilities into suppliers to enhance the value and benefit of the end product.

The pay range shown represents the national average pay range for this role. Your pay may be more or less than the stated range and is dependent on your geographic location and level of experience.
