Job Summary :
Responsible for supervising and performing in all pharmacy operations in accordance with accredited hospital policies and procedures, ethical and professional practices, The Joint Commission standards, and State and Federal requirements.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities :
The following is a summary of the major functions of this individual's job. He or she may perform other duties which are not mentioned below, and specific functions may change from time to time.
1. Interprets, profiles, and dispenses outpatient prescriptions and inpatient orders.
2. Supervises daily production of IV’s in time for scheduled delivery and IV Room restock.
3. Performs calculations as needed.
4. Supervises department or assigned work area operations in absence of Manager or Director including scheduling appropriate staff coverage when personnel call in sick.
5. Initiates, documents, and participates in department activities that promote positive patient outcomes. These activities may include, but are not limited to :
DUE, ADR reporting, resolving drug therapy questions, therapeutic drug monitoring, identifying drug interactions and allergies, direct contact with prescribers to clarify major problem orders, and non-formulary drug requests.
6. Performs random checks of outpatient prescriptions, inpatient orders, tech run times, accuracy of pre-packing, Robot, and AcuDose restocking, and other QA checks as assigned and documents QA checks on appropriate forms.
7. Assists in orientation and training of new employees.
8. Provides in-service presentations to patients, employees, other health professionals or the general public. Participates in special projects.
Special projects are defined as : Projects in drug distribution, patient services, facility layout design, inventory control, decreasing costs, quality control, or effecting positive patient outcomes.
Projects must be completed in a timely manner and of good quality.
9. Handles patient / staff complaints and computer issues.
10. Monitors and coordinates workflow with established delivery schedules.
11. Coordinates, directs, and reassigns support personnel time as appropriate.
12. Communicates with Manager, Director, and Clinical Coordinator when needed and in appropriate time frame.
Minimum Education, Training and Experience Required :
A.Graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy with BS in Pharmacy.
B.Kentucky Pharmacist Registration or eligible.
C.Hospital experience preferred.
