Position Summary & Responsibilities :
Position Summary :
The Construction Engineer (EA III) position is located in Topeka KS at the Gage Construction office with the Kansas Department of Transportation.
The Construction Engineer provides engineering guidance and administration for the construction of highway and related construction project.
Due to seasonal work, incumbent may be required to work additional hours including nights and weekends. Additional hours to be assigned by the supervisor depending upon the needs of the agency.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following :
- Interprets specifications, plans, and special provisions for project personnel.
- Coordinates construction schedules for timely completion of highway projects.
- Supervises other Engineering Associates and Engineering Technicians in the administration of contract provision for highway construction work.
- Provides effective leadership to work unit by directing the training of personnel under direct supervision and encouraging development and achievements of those employees.
- Prepares periodic and final reports, such as contractor's payment vouchers, weekly contractor's report, etc.
- Coordinates communication with construction managers / surveyors, utility coordinators, and contractors to ensure proper flow & sequence of operations.

Qualifications : Education
Education
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET (Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology) accredited engineering school.
Licensing & Certificate
Valid Driver’s License
Engineer in Training or Fundamental of Engineering certificate recognized by the State of Kansas Board of Technical Professionals.
Minimum Qualifications
Two years engineering experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Extensive experience in the administration of highway construction projects.
- Experience in supervising engineers / engineering technicians.
- Knowledge of engineering principles and practices; state and federal laws and criteria related to engineering standards;
reference materials in the field of engineering.
- Ability to prepare, interpret, and utilize engineering plans, maps, specifications, and reports.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written; maintain effective working relationships; and supervise a staff of employees.
