Roxbury Tenants of Harvard Association, Inc. (RTH) is a dynamic, multi-service non-profit organization founded in 1969. We are dedicated to preserving the unique character of the Mission Hill neighborhood by providing high-quality, low- and moderate-income housing and extensive human services.
Our community is diverse and vibrant, offering numerous recreational and educational facilities, wellness programs, and community engagement initiatives.
Mission : RTH seeks to develop, preserve, and maintain safe and affordable housing for low- and moderate-income people of diverse backgrounds in the RTH / Mission Hill neighborhood, improving residents' quality of life through property management, social and educational services, workforce development, and community activism.
Role Summary : Under the supervision of the P.E. / Sports and Aquatics Director, the gym monitor is responsible for overseeing the functions and assisting in activities at RTHCC.
Gym Monitors are expected to oversee athletic facilities, including participants and equipment, as well as assist with programs.
To ensure that emphasis in RTH athletic programs is always on participation, inclusion, fun, and fair play. Our gym monitors will exhibit a positive and helpful attitude, promote exercise and health, and still values that will lead to a positive experience in sports.
They are responsible for ensuring the gymnasium is safe and clean during the hours of operation. Our facility monitors build relationships with our members to ensure equitable gym usage for all.
Acts in the best interest of the RTH organization, reflecting the values of teamwork, collaboration, and mutual respect.
RESPONSIBILITIES : Administrative
Administrative
- Ensures all programs and games are safe and equipped.
- Ensures that RTH program standards are met, and safety procedures are followed.
- Follow risk management policies and procedures for programs and activities.
- Build and maintain a high standard of customer service skills. Serve as a role model for residents, program participants, staff, and volunteers.
- Contributes to a positive and safe work environment.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, as directed.
- Act immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of the participant in the case of an emergency.
- Know and follow Emergency Action Plans and attend emergency schedule practice drills for staff.
- Review and enforce gymnasium manual policies.
- Maintains accurate record keeping, organizes file system, and follows up on voicemails and emails, within 24-48 business hours of receipt.
- Submit completed report cards, skill sheets, and attendance information on time.
- Performs other duties as directed / assigned.
Program :
- Help coach and instruct P.E. sports classes and programs. Put into practice the best gym program practices and innovative program models.
- Administer age and ability appropriate programs along with activities related to P.E / Sports.
- Enforcing the rules of the sport being played.
- Keeping track of time and announcing breaks.
- Observing players' behavior during the game to ensure that they are abiding by the rules of conduct.
- Inspect sports equipment to make sure that all the organization's specifications are met.
- Make sure that each athlete is given equal attention to their development in the sport.
- Provide a high standard of customer service and maintain a professional appearance.
- Maintain a clean facility and perform routine cleaning.
- Begin and end each game or session on time, remain after to answer participant and / or parent questions and clean up supplies.
- Teach sport specific classes and or participate in coaching or monitor gymnasium activities as needed.
- Assists in facilitating the resident involvement and engagement process through neighborhood outreach. Further establish the department's image through community building, public relations, and publicity efforts.
Assist in the marketing and distribution program information.
Provides for the upkeep of gym facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment appropriately supports program participation.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES :
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job :
- Ability to interact with the residents and program participants physically and verbally.
- At times, be able to lift amounts up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to perform the following physical activities : stand, sit, walk, climb, balance, and bend.
- Working knowledge of RTH policies, and appropriate insert program specific info facility regulations and operational procedures.
- Ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations and apply appropriate management techniques.

- Take daily attendance and turn into both front desk and supervisor.
- The gym and all equipment are cleaned, inventoried, and monitored.
- Identified gaps in performance are addressed in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate "Safety First" culture as well as an understanding and alignment with RTH mission and values.
