What you'll do...
Walmart is seeking a Staff Data Scientist to join our Compass team in Sunnyvale, CA.
Compass team focuses on enhancing efficiency through data driven solutions among different internal operational verticals of Transactional Systems org.
We’re looking for trailblazers with an entrepreneurial mindset to innovate, tinker and craft something entirely new from the ground up.
Within our team, you’ll tackle high-impact projects that revolves around understanding our customer journey throughout payments, settlement, reconciliation and beyond.
You’ll work closely with your engineering, product, and business teammates to quickly iterate across phases of the machine learning modeling life cycle, from ideation to performance evaluation.
We’re looking for a product focused Data Scientist that will be instrumental to the creation, growth, and iteration of our expanding customer centric payment solutions.
This includes developing customer segmentation, anomaly detection algorithms, smart routing and smart payment retries. Using our customer checkout data, this person will leverage their extensive knowledge of data science and big data tools to build the algorithms that power the actionable insights for our Walmart customers.
What You’ll Do
You will be responsible for building and interpreting algorithms that power data products for Transaction systems. In this role, you will -
Obtain insights by leveraging machine learning algorithms. Examples are-
Operational segmentation via Clustering algorithms to group customers.
Supervised and semi-supervised learning methods for optimal payment routing and retries.
Anomaly detection methods to identify and predict anomalies to improve transactional systems’ performance and resiliency.
Design and develop orchestrated pipelines for analytical purposes and machine learning training.
Iterate with product and business by creating state of the art machine learning based solutions and be able to explain the reasons behind the executed inference.
Setup and run experiments to validate hypotheses and explain their conclusions.
Stay up to date with the latest research and developments in the machine learning field, and apply this where applicable.
What You’ll Bring
Experience developing, training, validating, benchmarking, and monitoring machine learning algorithms.
Experience leveraging a big data frameworks to create the pipelines needed to feed the models with appropriate data.
Problems are approached with a statistical mindset, keeping inference as a product of data. science. Experience with machine learning based anomaly detection is a plus.
Ability to distill complex systems and solutions to 2 or 3 actionable modeling tasks.
Ability to communicate complex outcomes with clarity over a wide range of audiences.
Extensive knowledge of data science and statistics techniques, toolsets, and algorithms, such as e.g. PySpark, Scikit-Learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, XGBoost, Pandas, Airflow, SQL.
An experimental mindset with a launch fast and iterate mentality.
Preferred Skills
6+ years of professional experience as a Data Scientist.
Experience working with GCP tools is a plus.
A strong statistics / mathematics background.

The annual salary range for this position is $132,000.00-$264,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.

Minimum Qualifications...
Option 1 : Bachelors degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 4 years' experience in an analytics related field.
Option 2 : Masters degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 2 years' experience in an analytics related field.
Option 3 : 6 years' experience in an analytics or related field
Preferred Qualifications...
Data science, machine learning, optimization models, PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics, Successful completion of one or more assessments in Python, Spark, Scala, or R, Using open source frameworks (for example, scikit learn, tensorflow, torch), We value candidates with a background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.
