Mental Health Clinician (Senior Academic Counselor)
This is a full time, MCCC, benefited position
BARGAINING UNIT / NON-UNIT : MCCC
ANTICIPATED START DATE : September 1, 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.
SALARY RANGE : Salary range is $74,383 - $79,383 annually (MCCC Grade 6, with a Master's Degree). Actual salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience in accordance with the MCCC collective bargaining agreement provisions.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES :
Join our team as a Mental Health Clinician (Senior Academic Counselor) and make a meaningful impact on our students' lives! Under the supportive guidance of the Dean of Students, you will provide short-term, supportive counseling, mental health crisis intervention, and collaborate with the Coordinator of Disability Services to ensure all students have equal access to GCC's programs and services.
Beyond direct student support, you'll have the opportunity to lead program management, develop instructional materials, and enhance mental health awareness across our campus.
You'll also forge valuable partnerships with off-campus counseling resources to create a robust support network for our students.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Provides short term psychological counseling for students to enhance personal, professional, and educational development.
- Counsels students on personal / psychological needs through application of individual / group counseling theory as applied to educational success;
- Interprets psychological tests, mental health screenings, and other assessment instruments to assess psychological needs of students;
- Responds to psychological emergencies; Makes referrals to outside practitioners / agencies for specific counseling or social service needs and engages in necessary consultation with mental health practitioners / providers regarding student needs;
Serves as an advocate for students and student issues.
Conducts programs and workshops that support the mental health of students Facilitates student support groups and student success workshops;
Participates in the implementation and assessment of new student & ongoing orientation programs; Provides training and support to campus community (, Peer Tutoring Program, faculty, advisors) regarding supporting student mental health.
- Interacts with various campus and community constituents Consults with faculty / staff on psychological support of students;
- Serves as an active member of the Behavioral Intervention TeamConsults with college administration on new, special, or continuing grants and other projects;
Provides networking liaison with community agencies, healthcare providers, area employers and other resources.
- Develops upon and administers counseling program Identifies and establishes program goals; Evaluates effectiveness of services;
- Compiles statistics of services utilized; Develops / reviews clinical forms and counseling policies; Develops media content for website, brochures, posters, and news articles to promote counseling services;
Prepares summary reports, annual reports, recommendations, referrals as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements :
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE* :
- Master's degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Social Work, or closely related field;
- Three (3) or more years experience that includes psychological counseling, psycho-therapy services, crisis intervention, and social work;
or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
- Current and valid licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, or ability to obtain licensure upon hire.
- Experience working with students with complex and varied mental health diagnoses in higher education.
- Experience with reasonable accommodations under the ADA for students with mental health diagnoses in higher education.
- Knowledge of technological applications such as web design, social media tools for program promotion, Banner, web-based student support software or databases.
