Legacy Community Health is a premium, Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that provides comprehensive care to community members regardless of their ability to pay.

50 clinics in Houston, one in Baytown, two in Beaumont, and one in Deer Park with extensive services that include : Adult primary care, HIV / AIDS care, pediatrics, OB / GYN and maternity, dental, vision and behavioral health.

Job Description
Ultrasound technologist use machines that direct sound waves into the human body to create echo-mapped pictures of internal organs.
The Ultrasound Tech will assist the provider to determine the Gestational age and the expected date of delivery as well as the stage of development.
Essential Functions
- Analysis of the captured images, finding out variations between healthy and imperfect areas including in the report to be forwarded to the physician
- Making sure that the image produced by the equipment is clear for the diagnosis. Else making adjustments of the equipment to get better images
- Helping patients prepare for the procedure. Explaining the process, helping them to move to the table, preparing the skin surface by application of gel before using the equipment.
- Approximately 10 ultrasounds / day, including at least 50% of anatomy scan.
- Communicating effectively with the patient and maintaining his / her comfort level during the examination
- Knowledgeable of normal human anatomy, normal anatomic variations and abnormal conditions.
- Promotes quality patient care through utilization of proper scanning techniques and optimal equipment settings.
- Interacts effectively with radiologists by describing clinical histories, demonstrating normal and abnormal anatomy, and modifying scan protocols for as directed to provide optimal visualization of anatomy.
- Displays cooperative attitude and excellent communication skills necessary to explain procedures, allay apprehensions and elicit the patient's cooperation.
- Responsible for the daily maintenance of the ultrasound machine and transducers. Reports malfunctioning equipment to Practice Manager immediately.
- Maintain cleanliness of assigned area.
- Responds to associate, physicians, and patient questions, giving factual information according to the nature of the questions and in accordance to clinic guidelines.
- Participates in quality assurance program. Meet with Director of Ultrasound one half-day each month for quality assurance purposes.
- Maintains adequate levels of medical supplies necessary for ultrasound testing.
- Maintains storage of videotapes and sonograms.
- Follows the Legacy guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Maintains established Legacy policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.
- Implements job responsibilities in a manner that is consistent with the Legacy Mission and
- Code of Ethics and supportive of Legacy’s cultural diversity objectives.
- Participates in the Performance Improvement Program
- Performs other related work as required

Operates assigned equipment and performs all procedures in a safe manner as instructed.
Maintains work area and equipment in condition required by LCHS standards.
Demonstrates proper body mechanics in all functions.
Checks on the patient’s environment and equipment to insure safety. Reports safety concerns promptly to appropriate personnel.
- Follows LCHS’s exposure control plans / bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
- Demonstrates knowledge of techniques, procedures and correct use of protective barrier equipment (Universal Precautions).
- Assures a safe environment by instituting appropriate control measures.
- Attends annual education programs.
Education & Training Requirements
- Associate degree or equivalent.
- Completion of clinical and classroom program in keeping with eligibility requirements of the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
- Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Sonographers.
- Must maintain good standing with certifying body.
- Meets all continuing education requirements to maintain certification by the American Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
Work Experience Requirements
- At least 2 years of obstetric / fetal ultrasound experience required.
- Must be able to work in a team setting.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to multi task in a fast paced environment.
- Above average organizational skills.
- Strong computer skills.
- This job requires access to confidential and sensitive information, requiring ongoing discretion and secure information management.
- Bilingual English and Spanish speaking preferred.
- Ability to meet Legacy Community Health’s EPIC proficiency requirements
