Overall Responsibility :
To establish guidelines to identify the professional qualifications and skill required for employment in the Pre admission testing area for the RN.
It is the Pretesting nurse’s responsibility to formulate and execute the nursing care for patients of all ages in the Pretesting area to ensure the patients receives the highest quality care, that their safety is ensured according policy and procedure, and to instigate and execute all other tasks as requested by the Chief Nursing Officer.
Key tasks and responsibilities :
- The Pretesting nurse calls the patient 7 to 10 days prior to surgery to pretest over the phone. If patient needs further testing done, nurse makes patient an appointment to come in for testing.
- The Pretesting nurse is to greet the patient in the lobby and escort the patient to the pretesting area.
- The nurse is to ensure all orders are correct for lab, EKG and CXR per the doctor’s orders. Notify Anesthesia and / or Physician of any abnormal lab, EKG, and CXR.
Follow through with any orders received.
- Form the packet with the patient’s pretesting results and scan into Cerner. Print the next day’s schedule and make sure all testing is in chart.
- Make pretesting confirmation calls on the next day’s surgery schedule.
- Maintain positive working relationships with the hospital, surgery center, clinic and physicians’ offices.
- Requires analytical and organizational skills, effective communications skills, problem solving abilities and assertiveness.

Required Skills
Licensure and Certification :
BCLS, if not current, certification within 90 days of hire.
Requires a degree or Diploma from an accredited school of Nursing with active registration from the Board of Nursing from the State she / he is currently licensed.
Required Experience
Experience required :
Previous experience in a healthcare environment, pretesting nurse experience preferred.

The employee works in a temperature controlled environment. Candidate must be able to read and speak English fluently, have cognitive skills for math, reading, computer skills, and communication skills to deal well with the public (customers) as well as peers.
