Position : Medical Science Liaison - Oncology Pharmacy Manager
Location : Johnson City, TN / onsite
Department : Hematology / Oncology Service Line
Salary : 100,000-$140,000 and flexible
Position Summary :
The Pharmacy Oncology Coordinator will lead operations across 8 infusion clinics. This role involves overseeing medication use within the Hematology / Oncology Service Line, crafting guidelines and policies, and collaborating with committees while managing the formulary.
This position entails monitoring trends for stewardship opportunities, implementing action plans, and fostering professional development by mentoring staff and students in ASHP accredited residency programs.
The ideal candidate will take charge of managing the oncology formulary and improving reimbursement processes to reduce denials.
This individual should have a solid clinical background, enabling them to have informed discussions with physicians regarding the latest oncology research and clinical trials.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Oversee medication utilization within the Oncology patient population.
- Develop and support medication use guidelines, policies, and protocols.
- Support the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and Subcommittees with formulary management and oversight.
- Facilitate committee work and develop drug monographs, MUEs, formulary reviews, and pharmacoeconomic analyses.
- Monitor external trends and strategies to identify opportunities for medication stewardship.
- Execute and track progress of action plans to optimize medication use.
- Engage in professional self-development and participate in scholarly and professional activities.
- Mentor pharmacy staff, students, and residency program participants.
Education and Experience Requirements :
- Graduate of an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy with an advanced Pharmacy degree.
- PGY-2 in Oncology and PGY-1 with experience in drug use policy or formulary management.
- Advanced skills in literature evaluation and project management.
- Minimum of eight years of experience in oncology practice
- Extensive oncology experience who can drive / direct the processes within eight different infusion clinics
- Strong clinical background in oncology that can comfortably debate / discuss current oncology literature / trials with oncology physicians
- Must have experience and expertise in driving the oncology formulary.
- Proficient in reducing denials and navigating reimbursement processes effectively.
Licensure / Certification Requirements :
- Pharmacist licensure in Tennessee
- Be willing to obtain Oncology certification (BCOP)
- CPR certification required
