Summary :
This individual is responsible for the overall plant operations in meeting customer requirements and organization goals. The 2nd Shift Supervisor directs the activities of hourly employees to minimize costs while meeting customer quality and delivery expectations.
The regular 2nd shift hours are Mon-Fri 2 : 00pm-10 : 00pm. During our busy seasons end times could be at 12 : 00am. While we minimize schedule changes, schedule flexibility is required as business needs.
This position reports directly to the Converting Superintendent.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities for Shift Supervisor :
- Directly supervising hourly employees by monitoring procedures, and the quality and quantity of production, and reviewing and approving production runs and quality records.
- Taking appropriate, prompt, corrective action regarding any potential safety hazard; maintaining excellent housekeeping;
and complying with all safety rules and procedures.
- Assigning work to subordinates and delegating responsibilities and authority.
- Signing off on the Factory Work Order that the initial set-up is correct and matches what is required by the information on the FWO.
- Making decisions regarding the quality of materials and products.
- Determining work schedules and lining up orders on machines.
- Establishing work methods and procedures, and training and developing hourly employees.
- Planning and conducting regular employee meetings with all crews to review / resolve problems, provide quality and performance feedback, provide training, and work on continuing improvement projects.
- Interpreting company policies and settling complaints and work-related problems.
- Reviewing the work performance of subordinates and helping them improve.
- Implementing quality improvement and cost reduction corrective actions.
- Performing minor maintenance.
- Preparing reports and records according to standard operating practices.
- Daily analyzing operating performances and taking appropriate corrective actions.
- Maintaining ongoing communications with maintenance, scheduling, management, and other supervisors.
- Meeting or exceeding performance goals as determined with the production manager.
- Continually improving knowledge and understanding of business and production processes.
- Initiating cutting die and / or printing plate repairs and / or replacements.
- Approve all sick and vacation time.
- Handle all disciplinary action, along with HR.
- Proactively looking for areas of improvement and rolling out solutions.
- Understands the basics of shipping and receiving trailers.
- May be required to fill in production positions when there is a shift labor shortage.
- May be required to cover other Supervisor shifts if coverage is needed.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment Background Check.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment Drug Screen.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education / Experience :
- Required 5 years of combination of industrial work experience and / or education beyond high school.
- College degree strongly preferred.
- Required 2 years’ experience in the manufacturing of corrugated shipping containers.
- Experience as a lead strongly preferred.
- Bilingual-Spanish strongly preferred.
Knowledge :
- Strong mechanical knowledge and understanding.
- Technical knowledge of box making, printing, and die cutting processes.
- Ability to speak and write fluently in English.
- Understanding of costs and profitability.
- Working knowledge of current total quality management theories and practices.

Certifications and Licenses :
Forklift certification.
