Occ Summary

Perform a variety of specialized technical an d supportive patientcare activities to assist medical professional perso nnel in diagnostic,therapeutic and research procedures.

Work Performed

Determine, prepare and set up medical supplies and equ ipment fordiagnostic, therapeutic and research procedures.Confer withpat ients to obtain information for chart and laboratory records,explain pro cedures, allay fears and elicit cooperation;

ensurecompletion of patient s'laboratory tests prior to examination byphysician.Prepare patients for diagnostic and therapeuticprocedures to include obtaining specimens, ta king vital signs andmeasurements, positioning patients and attaching equ ipment leads tospecific body locations.

  • Assist physicians and nursingpers onnel during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to includehandling in struments, calling out equipment readings and administeringoxygen and op aque dyes;
  • alert physician to patient discomfort.Operate equipment suchaspolygraphs, magnetic and video taperecorders and X-ray machines to mon itor and obtain recordings ofspecific body functions;

calculate, compile and record data obtainedfrom graphs and numerical readings.Operate manua l andautomatic laboratory equipmentto make qualitative and quantitative analyses of specimens.

Calibrate and perform routinemaintenance on equipm ent to ensure proper functioning; clean andsterilize instruments, suppli es and equipment.

Maintaininventory of supplies; reorder as required.Perf orm otherrelated duties incidental to the work described herein.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Work requires completion of a related 1 year technical school program.

Experience

Work generally requires two years of experience in health care EXPERIENCE specialties related to the specific position; two years additional yearsrelated experience may be substituted for the technical school.
