Job Summary
The Manager, Tax Provision position is primarily responsible for the preparation and review of AUSA’s tax provision and tax reporting process, as well as SOX compliance.
- Additionally, the Manager, Tax Provision is responsible for maintaining various models for cash flow; budget and forecasting;
- assisting / overseeing the preparation and filing of AUSA’s corporate and partnership income tax filings (Federal, State, and Local);
modeling, planning, and implementing tax savings strategies; and responding to federal, state, and local tax audits and notices.
The position reports to the Director for Income Tax and Tax Technology. This is a hybrid role with 3 days in the office (Bethpage, NY) or (Plano, TX).
Responsibilities
Prepare and review income tax provision related to quarterly income tax accounting requirements, including SOX and other internal controls, any relevant schedules (e.
g., blended state tax rate) and related supporting documentation / worksheets
- Prepares and / or reviews and / or works with outside vendors to perform income tax calculations, original and amended tax returns, extensions, and estimates (Federal, State, and Local), including supporting workpapers
- Work with the greater tax team and the financial planning team to forecast cash taxes; to determine the impact of potential, and actual, company initiatives;
and to perform due diligence and impact review for mergers, acquisitions, dispositions or other corporate reorganization / restructuring (at the Federal, State, and Local levels)
- Identify changes in tax laws (Federal, State, and Local), accounting methods, or any legislative or judicial activity on tax law, and communicate the impact of these changes on AUSA or the industry
- Coordinate and / or assist on tax savings strategies, cost / benefit reviews for tax initiatives, and managing audits and notices (Federal, State, and Local)
- In connection with income tax audits, evaluates the merits of the tax positions presented by tax authorities and their proposed audit adjustments
- Documents and communicates findings for any tax research or position
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting
- Certified public accountant preferred
- Master's in taxation; JD and / or LLM preferred
- 5-7 + years of Income tax experience in public accounting or large public company
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate technical tax information to both tax and non-tax personnel
- Proficient in income tax accounting (ASC 740)
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel
- Knowledge of accounting systems and processes
- Proficient with tax reporting software (OneSource) preferred
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, organized and attentive to details, and ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Working knowledge of internal controls
