Oversee the daily operation of 53,000+ General Equipment railcars ensuring optimal car utilization is attained in a fair and equitable manner to TTX's railroad partners.
The TTX General Equipment fleet is primarily used to move Paper & Forest products as well as Metals and Heavy Machinery.
The Assistant Manager is responsible for their assigned fleets which may include boxcars, chain flats, gondolas, ammo cars, bulkhead flats, center beams or heavy duty flat cars.
Special projects or tasks may be assigned as needed and some travel (5-10%) is to be expected. This position will require a thorough understanding of TTX enterprise systems and how these impact the fleets and day-to-day activities.
It also ensures the needs of all railroad partners are met in a professional manner.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
Manage daily flow of General Equipment fleets to ensure fair treatment to railroad partners
o Complete distribution processes with the goal of meeting railroad demand while reducing empty miles for assigned fleets
o Coordinate and track any and all equipment orders
o Act as direct point of contact for car hire relief requests
Monitor Data Integrity
o Perform audits of assigned fleets to ensure TTX maximizes fleet efficiency & usage (with regards to car hire status)
o Ensure proper data flow across internal and external systems (e.g. UMLER) for car management fields
o Develop understanding of key car management metrics (e.g. empty / load ratio, days per load (DPL), cycle segments)
Cross Department Collaboration
o Regular interaction with TTX Engineering, Maintenance Planning, Legal, Marketing, Finance and IT teams for the benefit of TTX's role as fleet manager
Personal Development / Travel
o Expand industry knowledge and business networks through attendance of related conferences, industry committees, field visits and scheduled meetings with car management contacts within participating railroads
Other
o Coordinate and execute any TTX hosted meetings
o Develop knowledge of TTX Car Contracts and agreements
o Process external user access requests
o Provide TTX system training to external users as needed
o Perform any other committee functions as required
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university
- 2+ years' related experience
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks according to urgency and department objectives. Able to thrive in a team environment or work autonomously
- Read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
Ability to perform Ad Hoc reporting using Microsoft Suite and other visual data products

About the Team
What we do :
Provide a wide range of services for North American railroads and the transportation industry.
- Create a Business Plan that drives the Company's plan for new car builds and modifications. The business plan reflects the economy, freight markets, and any changes in freight strategies.
- Day-to-day management of the TTX Company's Intermodal, General Equipment and Automotive fleets.
- Manage procurement of new rail cars, components and other materials used to support TTX fleet maintenance.
- Manage the North American Boxcar Pool and the Automotive Reload pool, which includes rail cars supplied by owners other than TTX.
- Provide in-depth analysis of the economy, the rail industry and its competitors.
