The Position
As the Project Leader of defined project teams and a core member of the Life Cycle Team (LCT),
- Provide cross-functional leadership to global project teams from project initiation through Launch Decision.
- Execute tailored strategy aligned with LCT objectives.
- Develop strategic options according to the principles of time, cost and risk and addresses technical, regulatory, business and operational needs.
- Collaborate closely with the Product Manager to drive product lifecycle.
- Leads projects which lead to new products or product updates, have a medium business impact and can be of high technical or medium regulatory complexity.
The delivery teams can be geographically dispersed or the development is performed with an external partner.
- Decide on product development pathways in accordance to cross-functional evaluation and risk assessment
- Deliver a seamless transition into later stages of development by ensuring early planning and cross-functional involvement / communication in early product development strategy
- Monitor team performance and help develop individual members.
- Responsible for on-spec, on-budget, and on-time delivery of the project(s).
- Drive best practices and implementation of lessons learned for optimal cross functional collaborations.
- Participate in project and process improvement initiatives across the LCT, to drive the highest quality results.
- Lead process improvement, and change management, initiatives across the LCT, to drive the highest quality results.
More specifically, the Project Leader for a LCT is responsible for the following :
PROJECT LEADER MANAGEMENT
May have (Associate) Project Leader direct report(s) to ensure successful execution of tailored product development strategy that is aligned with the LCT objectives.
PROJECT TEAM LEADERSHIP
- Lead, motivate and organize the project team to define and execute cutting-edge project strategy inaccordance with LCT goals and budget.
- Set clear direction for the global product development strategy from project initiation to Launch Decision(LD).
- Ensure the optimal blend of team members so that the team is functional from an expertise and interpersonal perspective.
- Ensure all team members and functions are aligned behind the objectives of the team.
- Set challenging project team goals and ensure that best practices are used to attain these goals.
- Motivate and inspire team to achieve challenging goals.
- Create a positive team environment that instills trust and ensures clear transparent communications and unifies the team behind the overall goal / vision for the project.
- Instill a sense of urgency and a strong can-do attitude in team members.
- Challenge the team and organization to ensure that the best possible performance is achieved.
- Provide input to team member performance, including extended teams.
- Lead team to develop scenarios including alternative development options (cost, time, risk / benefit) for strategic decision making.
- Promote healthy debate from functional experts to ensure effective, clear decision making within the team.
- Lead co-development projects balancing the needs of Roche and partners in collaborations.
COMMUNICATIONS
- Encourage creative or unconventional ideas and ensures that these are exploited by the team, as appropriate.
- Challenge team members and status quo constructively to lead delivery of ambitious milestones. redundant
- Lead team to create and document an integrated early research and development project plan and secure agreement on transition plan for lifecycle transition of project.
