Since 1948, patients from throughout the greater Los Angeles area have found cutting-edge eye care at the Santa Monica Eye Medical Group, located in Santa Monica, California.

The practice's founders, John E. Gilmore, MD, and Donald E. Dickerson, MD, developed the very first course in cataract intraocular lens surgery.

Currently led by Dr. Sadiqa Stelzner, associate professor at UCLA, the doctors at the practice offer not only state-of-the-art eye care ranging from advanced surgical procedures including laser refractive surgery (LASIK), refractive laser-assisted cataract surgery (ReLACS), and micro-invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) and exams for glasses and contact lenses.

We also specialize in a variety of aesthetic treatments to address scars, wrinkles, stretch marks, melasma, etc. As another convenience to our patients, we have on-site a state-of-the-art outpatient surgery center.

Today, Dr. Stelzner and her colleagues offer state-of-the-art treatments and compassionate patient care. They understand that the gift of sight changes lives, so they take the time to get to know their patients, listening to their concerns and experiences while also providing excellent care and medical treatment.

JOB BRIEF

We are looking for a professional, patient-centric Optometrist for our Santa Monica office. As an Optometrist, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional eye care services to our patients.

The Optometrist has a leading role in leading the practice to success by building and maintaining a strong patient following.

It is essential to guide patients in selecting frames, lenses and contacts that are best suited for their lifestyle, wardrobe, medical and price needs.

Advise patients about the benefits and drawbacks of glasses and contact lenses. You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of every transaction : styling, lens selection, ordering, tracking and dispensing.

The Optometrist consistently delivers an exceptional experience to all of their patients, while ensuring that all optical quality controls are in compliance.

This individual works closely with patients and the office staff to provide accurate, timely, and responsive documentation of patient consultations, diagnostic testing, exams and fulfilment of prescriptions.

A pleasant, warm and professional demeanor is essential. As a member of our team, we all provide a high level of efficient patient care, while always presenting a caring, ethical, friendly, and professional experience for the patients.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintains extremely high professional and interpersonal standards.
• Connects and develops strong relationships with patients in order to build a strong following.
• Ensures quality eye exams to patients, focused on quality and experience
• Diagnose and treat visual problems, such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.
• Prescribe eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other visual aids.
• Detect and manage eye diseases like glaucoma, cataracts, and diabetic retinopathy
• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure holistic patient care.
• Advises patients about the benefits and drawbacks of glasses and contact lenses.
• Takes and records accurate measurements.
• Manages their Optometric Techs to always meet high standards of quality and aesthetics.
• Guides patients on how to care for their glasses and contact lenses.
• Stays current on medical and product knowledge.
• Maintains presentation standards both on the sales floor and back office.
• Warmly refers patients to the Optician in our retail optical department.
• Demonstrates courtesy and helpfulness toward patients and their families.
• Transitions patient from doctor to Optical floor with a warm intro to our Optician.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the office staff and other Doctors.
• Adheres to policies regarding safety, confidentiality and HIPAA guidelines.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Doctor of Optometry degree from an accredited optometry school.
• Optometrist license from the California State Board of Optometry.
• Understanding of ocular physiology and common eye conditions,
• Knowledge and understanding of the workings optical medical offices.
• Knowledge and understanding of optical medical terminology.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, fax, printers, scanners, and other office software.
• Experience working with optometric tools, equipment and software.
• Experience in maintaining accurate medical records.
