A translational research lab at Emory University and the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center is seeking a post-doctoral associate interested in pediatric sarcomas.

We are looking for an intelligent and highly motivated individual that will provide significant scientific expertise to our laboratory studying the development and progression of pediatric sarcomas.

The applicant should be proficient in basic research and molecular methods including cell culture, western blotting, qPCR, etc.

and familiar with using animal model systems. Knowledge of genetics, molecular biology and cancer biology is also preferred.

Potential projects for the post-doctoral associate include those related to gaining insights into the molecular pathogenesis of sarcoma development and metastasis, as well as further our understanding of therapeutic resistance, microenvironmental factors and transcriptional regulation.

The applicant should be capable of performing independent work, but also be willing to assist others and help mentor more inexperienced / junior members of the laboratory.

In addition, integration of applicants own prior research experience and independent ideas will be highly encouraged and considered.

The applicant should have strong writing and oral communication skills and be willing to participate and present research at a variety of venues including laboratory meetings and conferences.

The post-doctoral associate will meet with the PI on a regular basis to discuss research progress as well as any technical issues and outline of future directions.

JOB DESCRIPTION : Helps design and conduct research within a specified field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career.

The specific area of research in which the trainee is mentored is determined by the department and laboratory of the Postdoc.

Designs and evaluates experiments. Develops new ideas that promote current research. Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator.

May be responsible for operation of specific equipment. May teach techniques to others, train, and supervise research staff.

Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee. The initial appointment is for one year, renewal expected if progress is satisfactory and funds are available.

Appointments cannot exceed five years.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field. Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills.

The ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.
