This is a full-time, weekday overnight position at Auburn Veterinary Specialists in Gulf Shores, AL. Typical shifts are Monday through Thursday from 6 : 30 PM to 7 : 30 AM.

- Monitors and administers treatments to patients admitted to the hospital.
- Observes and records vital signs, abnormal behavior, body weight, food / water intake, basic husbandry, and comfort levels of animals under the direction of a veterinarian.
- Assesses and treats post-operative pain status and comfort level of patients.
- Maintains communication with overseeing veterinarian regarding patient status and potential concerns.
- Performs and demonstrates veterinary care techniques and procedures, including sample collection, medication administration, and emergency resuscitation or other lifesaving procedures.
- Performs laboratory tests to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patient health problems.
- Cares for and monitors the condition of animals before, during, and / or after surgery, with the ability to recognize abnormalities in patient’s condition if they arise.
- Able to work independently and with minimal supervision to complete tasks.
- Organizes, cleans, stocks, and prepares treatment rooms for examination of animals, and holds or restrains animals during examination or treatment.
- Administers treatments to animals, including tasks such as giving injections, maintaining intravenous catheters, and managing constant rate infusions under the direction of a veterinarian.
- Assists with student instruction.
- May fill prescriptions and measure medications.
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience :
Level I : Requires an Associates degree in Veterinary Technology or a related field that qualifies an individual to obtain national certification.
Level II : Requires an Associates degree in Veterinary Technology or a related field that qualifies an individual to obtain national certification plus 2 years of experience in Veterinary Technology or in the care and comfort of animals.
Level III : Requires an Associates degree in Veterinary Technology or a related field that qualifies an individual to obtain national certification plus 4 years of experience in Veterinary Technology or in the care and comfort of animals.
Substitutions allowed for Experience :
When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.

- Active license with the Alabama State Board of Veterinary Medicine as a Veterinary Technician.
- Have met all requirements to become licensed in the State of Alabama. Licensure must be obtained within 6 months of hire date.
