Purpose of Job :
Improve the overall health of the Greater Spokane community that we serve by managing patient care at assigned medical clinics by performing the following duties :
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families using Sacred Hospitality.
- Greets a variety of patients and escorts them to the exam room; informs patients of time delays throughout the visit.
- Prepares patients for provider(s); anticipates needs of provider(s) to maintain efficient patient flow.
- Performs phlebotomy and laboratory procedures as directed by provider(s).
- Performs and documents injections and immunizations.
- Ensures exam rooms are clean, stocked, and ready for patients.
- Cleans, prepares, and sterilizes instruments.
- Assists provider with procedures and exams.
- Assists with patient education.
- Answering phone calls, directing the calls as required and handling all queries.
- Assists with prior authorization.
- Takes patient vitals and prepares appointments for medical provider.
- Maintain patient records containing pertinent, accurate and current information in compliance with Privacy Act, HIPAA and RCW / WAC policy, procedures and rules.
- Perform all Federal / State Prevention Health screening.
Education : Completion of an accredited AAMP program. Must have proof of a Certified Washington State Department of Health license in Medical Assisting.
Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS / CPR) Certification. Requires a minimum of 3 years of experience in a community health or hospital setting.
Other Skills : Excellent customer service, oral and written communications skills required. Compassion for patients required.
Must be able to work well in team setting. Ability to multi-task with ability to anticipate future needs. Basic computer user skills required.
Medical terminology and accurate spelling ability required. CPR / AED certified for a Health Care Provider. Possesses critical working knowledge of current Evidence Based Practices and supports recovery based lifestyles and patient outcomes.
Must successfully pass a criminal background check, OIG check and a pre-employment UA / BA.
Physical Demands
Medical Assistants are required to stand, sit, and be mobile one-third to two-thirds of the time. They are required to use hands to finger, handle or feel over two-thirds of the time, as well as reach with hands and arms.
Climbing or balancing occurs less than one-third of the time; while stooping, kneeling or crouching occurs between one-third and two-thirds of the day.
Communicating by talking / hearing occurs over two-thirds of the day. Amount of time spent lifting or exerting force is about 50% for up to 10 pounds and less than one-third of the time up to 25 pounds.
Rarely is there a need to lift more than 26 pounds. MAs must be able to travel and manage stress.
