Agfa Healthcare is looking for a Director, Software Engineering to be located at our Waterloo R&D office. The position will be responsible for leading the site by coaching, mentoring, motivating, and engaging the Waterloo development organization.

The successful candidate will clearly and regularly communicate both the Agfa Healthcare vision and the R&D vision to ensure that the site is aligned and moving in the right direction to meet deliverables.

The position will be part of a Global R&D team and use communication and influencing skills to be a connector between other R&D sites and teams.

Key Roles & Responsibilities :

The leader will support and champion the team, focusing on the development of the team along with their career growth objectives.

The leader will ensure the spreading of knowledge while building bench strength for our key positions.

Lead the team to deliver the product we commit to, with quality, on time, and more efficiently. Ensure delivery of software release in time, scope, and quality.

Track, analyze, and report on the team’s activities, and make recommendations and changes to maximize results. Ensures R&D Site employees will perform to improve overall effectiveness and learning within the site, by coaching, training, enabling skills to grow, and practices to be spread across teams / sites.

Departmental Strategy and People Management lead a team of experienced people managers to deliver business results. Goal setting, coaching, mentoring, and performance management are a key component of this position.

Build the technology we need and align it with our technical roadmap. Develop a technical vision and viewpoint and align that across sites and with the overall AGFA HealthCare technical roadmap.

Be an influencer on your own and with your team’s experts.

• Bring the team closer to the customer. React in a timely manner to customer complaints and defects to increase customer satisfaction.
• Stakeholder Communication : Act as site-specific engineering liaison for technical business issues. This may also include participation in sales activities, customer visits, and customer service issues that require detailed technical consultation as well as communication with senior management.
• Resource Allocation : allocate resources effectively including people, budget, and technology infrastructure, and ensure that releases are adequately resourced to meet objectives.

Ensure we have a lean process that is fit for purpose. Inspire the team to be a team that is always learning, improving, and learning out the process.

Ensure that the process helps us deliver with quality, on time, and with speed.

Quality Assurance; ensure that software products meet the quality standards and customer requirements by implementing QA processes and code reviews.

Skills Required :

• The Director of software engineering needs to have a broad understanding of the healthcare industry.
• Superior communication skills are required as the role will have customer contact and work within a global R&D organization.
• Strong problem-solving skills and project management experience are required
• Ability to identify and mitigate risks that may impact project delivery such as technical challenges, resource constraints, or changes in requirements to ensure projects stay on track and deliver on time
• Setting Strategy and Roadmap teams must deliver to the roadmap.
• Strong interpersonal skills are required.
• Full stack development of large-scale enterprise applications, Java, Cloud & Cloud Native development expertise, healthcare industry experience
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent with 5-10 years of relevant experience
