LHH is ramping up a search for a Packaging Engineer in the Metro Detroit area. The Packaging Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing packaging solutions that ensure the safe and efficient transport, storage, and distribution of our products.
This role requires a strong blend of technical expertise, creativity, and problem-solving skills to meet both functional and aesthetic packaging requirements.
Key Responsibilities :
Design and develop packaging solutions for new and existing products, considering factors such as product protection, cost, sustainability, and consumer appeal.
Conduct packaging feasibility studies, including material selection, compatibility testing, and performance evaluations.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product development, manufacturing, and marketing, to ensure packaging meets product requirements and customer expectations.
Create detailed packaging specifications, drawings, and prototypes using CAD software and other tools.
Perform package testing and validation, including compression testing, drop testing, and environmental testing, to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Optimize packaging designs for efficiency in manufacturing, transportation, and storage, while minimizing environmental impact.
Evaluate and recommend packaging materials, suppliers, and vendors based on quality, cost, and sustainability criteria.
Troubleshoot packaging-related issues during production, distribution, and customer use, and implement corrective actions.
Stay current with packaging trends, innovations, and regulatory requirements to drive continuous improvement in packaging solutions.
Document packaging processes, specifications, test results, and project updates to ensure traceability and compliance with company standards.
Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. (Master’s degree preferred)
Proven experience (3+ years) as a Packaging Engineer or in a similar role within a manufacturing or consumer goods industry.
Proficiency in CAD software (, SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for packaging design and simulation.
Knowledge of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, and testing methodologies.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and quality.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
Experience with sustainability initiatives and packaging regulations (, ISTA, ASTM, ISO) is a plus.
Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
