Team Intro

The Payment team of U.S. Data Security department of TikTok provides payment solutions - including payment acquisitions, disbursements, transaction monitoring, payment method management, foreign exchange conversion, accounting, reconciliations, and so on - to ensure that users have a smooth and secure payment experience on TikTok platform.

In order to enhance collaboration and cross-functional partnerships, among other things, at this time, our organization follows a hybrid work schedule that requires employees to work in the office 3 days a week, or as directed by their manager / department.

We regularly review our hybrid work model, and the specific requirements may change at any time.

Responsibilities

You are playing a key role in empowering TikTok to achieve overall payment success by way of payment security. You will contribute to the development of industry-leading capabilities to protect TikTok and our users from emerging payment threats and ensure secure payment growth.

You must be able to work both independently and as part of a team to deliver on a set of needs in a fast-paced environment.

Specific responsibilities include :

• Champion security : Follow best practices to meet the high standard of regulatory data security requirements.
• Perform in-depth analysis to get to the root cause of complex business problems on US and global payment initiatives by applying statistical models / quantitative methodology on large-scale data.
• Design, conduct and analyze experiments to identify causal relationships between various factors to measure payment strategy effectiveness and make improvement recommendations.
• Subject Matter Expert on fraud types, trends and emerging threats facing TikTok payment ecosystem, and pursue related opportunities to mitigate risks and remove vulnerabilities from TikTok platform.

Define business objectives and formulate specific and practical business problems into mathematical problems and mathematical models in a fast paced, fluid environment.

Evaluate and analyze fraud patterns, trends and data to develop, implement, and evolve fraud prevention rules within TikTok's fraud rule engine with accuracy and effectiveness, while minimizing user disruptions.

Design, conduct and analyze experiments to identify causal relationships between various factors to measure rule effectiveness and make improvement recommendations.

• Collaborate with analytics, data engineers, operations, and product managers, to build end-to-end fraud defense systems, including detection, action, monitoring and alerting, testing, etc.
• Work closely with the payment operations team to develop a holistic strategy to reduce chargeback volume fluctuations.
• Responsible for regular reporting to cross-functional stakeholders on fraud performance and user impacts, including key metrics, trends, deep dives and actionable improvement recommendations.
• Build an understanding of TikTok's business and services to craft strategies that yield security, financial and performance benefits.
• Maintain a high degree of curiosity : focus on getting to the root of a problem and proactively answering questions which arise from analytical exercise.

This position demands an analytic business expert who can build and implement high quality payment success strategies to drive business value.

Deep expertise in risk, payments, data science, analytics, business consulting an / or operations is required. Specifically :

Minimum Qualifications

• 2+ years of progressive success in roles of increasing responsibility.
• 2+ years working in analytics, risk, management consulting, strategic operations or insight delivery.
• 2+ years of coding experience in SQL, Python, R. Being strongly skilled at manipulating and integrating data from a variety of sources.
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills are required. Be able to effectively communicate complex concepts and insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Intellectually curious and analytically rigorous. Solution oriented and looking for ways to add value. Ability to break down complex problems and propose alternative, new ways of thinking.
• Positive approach and commitment to collaboration with shared purpose.
• Be comfortable working virtually with teams across regions and time zones.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of the payments industry is highly desirable.
• Risk analytics / operations, data science experience or similar quantitative business responsibility for financial services, eCommerce, or operational performance highly desirable.
• An advanced quantitative or technical degree is highly desirable.
