The Engineering & Maintenance Manager is responsible leading the maintenance and engineering processes for equipment, tooling, and facilities to achieve continuous improvement in operational performance as well as complying with all applicable regulatory agencies.
They will also manage new additions and modifications to the facility, grounds and equipment in such a way that they comply with GMPs, SQF requirements and all safety regulations as set forth by our certification bodies.
Essential Accountabilities
- Lead and manage equipment, tooling, and facilities engineering and maintenance functions; including thermoforming machines, automation, and ancillary equipment.
- Develop and monitor the annual capital budget and three year capital plan.
- Lead staff by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, and counseling;
initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
- Hire and maintain a competent staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees; maintaining a safe and secure work environment, coaching and developing staff members.
- Achieve strategic objectives by gathering pertinent information; identifying and evaluating options; choosing an effective course of action.
- Achieve engineering financial objectives by preparing the engineering budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances;
initiating corrective action.
- Maintain product quality by complying with Quality System policies and procedures. Supports quality initiatives and compliance as it relates to Engineering functions.
- Manage capital projects from development, through approval and implementation.
- Maintain disaster preparedness by identifying potential problems; developing response plans; managing crises.
- Work closely with Environmental, Health & Safety Manager to insure compliance with legal requirements in the areas of environmental and OSHA requirements, including an understanding of existing and new legislation in these areas in order to drive company-wide compliance and to achieve the safety goals.
- Direct the development of effective maintenance programs for equipment and facilities to minimize unscheduled downtime, increase equipment and tooling reliability and uptime, and comply with customer and market requirements, and provide a safe and GMP compliant work environment that is compliant with ISO 13485 requirements.
Lead preventative and predictive maintenance efforts for both equipment and tooling.
- Develop and implement plans for continuous tooling and equipment improvement; and safety stock parts needed for improved uptime of equipment.
- Maintain quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards.
- Establish and maintain a 5S program for all departments to support an orderly and clean manufacturing environment.
- Support manufacturing related initiatives, including Lean Manufacturing and Kaizen / continuous improvement initiatives.
- Protect operations by keeping engineering information confidential.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices, and / or participating in professional societies.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- All other tasks & duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering Related field and at least 7 years of progressively responsible work experience in a high volume, process manufacturing environment, with experience to include managing both engineering and maintenance areas.
Experience must include a minimum of 5 years in a managerial role.
