Railserve is a leading provider of in-plant rail switching, transloading, and material handling services operating at over 75 locations in North America.

We use our own locomotives and employees to safely move railcars within industrial, manufacturing and production plants.

Qualifications

• Must be able to successfully complete a DOT physical, drug screen and background check
• To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily

• 2-3 years + experience required, or equivalent combination of education & experience

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

• Must have knowledge of rebuilding the diesel engine component of a locomotive
• Must be able to troubleshoot a running locomotive
• Must have valid Driver's license
• Must be able to operate cutting torch and electrical welder

Language Skills / Math Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

What you'd be doing

• This position is responsible for maintaining the fleet of locomotives to ensure the company's ability to serve the customer and provide reliable equipment for employees
• Performs scheduled and emergency maintenance on all company locomotives in a cost effective manner (including Gen-Set, SW and GP)
• Knowledge of rebuilding the diesel engine component of locomotives
• Able to troubleshoot running locomotives
• Troubleshoots and fixes mechanical problems
• Maintain proper records (preventative maintenance sheets, invoices, shipping documents, expense reports)
• Handle environmental issues in appropriate manner (e.g. proper disposal of filter oil, diesel fuel or other materials
• Must wear required personal protective equipment
• Other duties as assigned

• The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to operate control levers; and reach with hands and arms
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and may be required to work nights, holidays, and weekends
• The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts
• The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals
