Perimeter Behavioral Hospital of Dallas is seeking an Assistant Clinical Director of Intake is accountable for assisting and directing the Assessment and Referral activities at the facility.

As a clinician, this position provides directions to all staff of The Intake Department in the provision of psychiatric assessment services, including clinical evaluations, crisis intervention, and referrals.

This position interfaces closely with the medical staff, fellow department heads and administration, treatment team / external case managers / managed care organizations, functions as a liaison with other hospital intake departments.

Maintains the department’s monthly staffing scheduling and assists in all auditing of evaluations and call logs.

This position assumes leadership responsibilities assigned and assists with the day-to-day operations of the department; clinical support with staff for case presentations and treatment recommendations;

daily review of HCS system for accurate data entry; assist / support with training of new staff. Rotating on call schedule with the Director of Intake and assisting in maintaining the department in the Director’s absence.

Qualifications / Education

  • A graduate of an appropriately accredited school of nursing, is licensed by the State of Texas to practice as an RN and demonstrates an understanding of the principles of epidemiology and infectious disease in the hospital.
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited school in nursing is preferred.
  • With experience as an infection control nurse in a psychiatric hospital setting.
  • Must be Licensed and Registered in the State of Texas as a Registered Nurse.
  • Complete knowledge of crisis intervention techniques, restraint and seclusion, and ability to prepare and present training events as directed for Nursing Services.
  • Completion of training in Handle with Care and CPR within 10 days of employment.
  • May be required to work occasional weekends and / or other hours; conduct weekend training as needed.
  • Prior intake, assessment, admission, and crisis intervention experience with a psychiatric mental health population, preferably in an inpatient setting required.
  • Three years of experience and knowledge in mental health.
  • Prefer knowledge of crisis intervention and risk assessment, psychiatric diagnoses symptomology, basic chemical dependency, age specific growth and development and crisis and behavior management.

PR1MARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Assessment & Referral Supervisor responsibilities shall include, but not limited to :

  • Taking the lead in consultation with assessment coordinators conducting level of care assessments on patients seeking evaluation for psychiatric treatment.
  • Provide crisis and supportive contact with patients and families.
  • Responsible for accurate and timely documentation.
  • Coordinating with referral agencies in facilitating step ups and direct transfers admissions to both our inpatient and / or outpatient continuum of care;
  • Coordinating with insurance companies for authorizations of recommended treatment.
  • Providing excellent communication skills in fielding inquiry calls and / or referral information.
  • Completing the clerical process for inpatient admissions. Receive referral calls, obtain minimal demographic information, and refer the call to the

appropriate source or schedule an assessment.

  • Process all requests for information and external referrals.
  • Complete pre-certifications as needed.
  • Assist in arranging for admission of patients, including alerting the business office staff to begin the verification of benefits, initiating calls to physicians and other related tasks as directed by the Case Manager.
  • Determine what Releases of Information are needed, and process them accordingly, per policy.

Assist in obtaining needed records and information.

Arrange disposition and community resources. Communicate with the designated Treatment

Coordinator as indicated.

  • Maintain all statistics; provide support to the Outcome Study, and other data, as assigned.
  • Maintains good communication with the Utilization Review, Business Office, and other staff as indicated.
  • Maintains a logs of received calls and disposition of the calls, and other informational tools as assigned.
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers, practicing good standards of customer service.
  • Responsible for assessing, diagnosing and treatment of a variety of patient populations.
  • Responsible for working with children, adolescents, and senior populations. Must be familiar with common diagnoses with these population groups and familiar with specific assessment interviewing skills for each population group.
  • 85% of work time is spent providing direct patient care including assessment, diagnosing and direct treatment intervention.

The remaining work time is spent completing non-direct duties, i.e. clinical on call, reports and clinical audit of documentation .

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND SPECIAL DEMANDS

  • Clinical critical thinking and conflict resolution skills are required for this role.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperatively with hospital staff, physicians

and administration.

  • Must be able to work effectively and efficiently in an independent role.
  • Have the ability to sit and stand occasionally and walk frequently, reach above, at or below

waist height, kneel, bend, stoop, turn, twist and throw from occasionally to frequently.

Have the ability to communicate clearly and see well enough to read charts, treatment plans

and typewritten materials, hear well enough to detect noises on the unit and have the ability

to discern odors frequently.

Have the ability to lift and carry 10 pounds frequently, 10-50 pounds occasionally. Have

the ability to handle hazardous / infectious waste frequently.

Have the ability to work in an environment where : chemicals are used for cleaning frequently.

  • Be able to remain calm while working efficiently under stressful conditions.
  • Must possess good communication skills, to include writing techniques for reports and appeals and verbal presentations for telephone interactions and training seminars.
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position to include both sitting for long periods of time and walking the grounds and units of the facility.
