Job Description
Provides occupational and primary care medical services, including assessing, treating, and case management of patients in the clinic and specified off-site locations.
Ensures that clinical operations comply with applicable state and federal rules governing nurse practitioner’s practice and workers’ compensation laws, as well as established standards and practices of CareOnSite (Clinic) and site-specific Company protocols, as required.

- Pay Range : $65 - $75 per hour
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
I. Illness and Injury
- Obtains complete medical history and physical exam on patients.
- Interprets and integrates data to determine appropriate laboratory, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures as needed.
- Synthesizes data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention.
- Collaborates with and escalates cases to Medical Client Leads and, if needed, overseeing physicians, per protocol, in managing acute and long-term medical (and worker compensation-related) needs of patients.
- Administers medications and injections in compliance with state law and clinic guidelines.
- Manages medical and surgical emergencies.
- Performs therapeutic and minor surgical procedures, including suturing minor lacerations, SubQ foreign body removal, simple foreign body removal of the eye / cornea, and burn care.
- Instructs patients regarding medications and treatment instructions. Provides patient education.
- Reviews patients’ tests and examination results.
- Triages patient telephone calls and provides medical / case management consultation.
- Follows up with patients as needed by phone.
- Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
- May be required to provide medical support and service to the on-site emergency response team in the field.
- For occupational incidents, reports work status to Company management with a right-to-know authority, and to the Worker’s Compensation Division as required by Company protocol and applicable State and Federal Laws.
II. Surveillance, Pre-Placement, & Fitness for Duty Examinations
- Performs examinations according to the Clinic’s protocol or, when applicable, off-site Corporate Medical Protocols, in compliance with State and Federal Laws.
- Informs regarding results of examinations and educates regarding health and illness prevention. Recommends community and / or company resources to meet patient / employee needs.
III. Wellness and Health Programs
Responsible for implementing, planning, and evaluating educational information and programs with the assistance of the Clinic’s corporate management team.
IV. Management & General Administrative Duties
- Attends required Clinic and Off-site Client Company meetings and participates in committees as requested.
- Performs and supervises related clinic administrative work, prepares reports in Microsoft Office applications (Word and Excel) as required.
- Completes all paper and / or electronic medical documentation of patients seen during a scheduled shift prior to leaving for the day.
- Completes medical chart documentation in the Electronic Command Center as provided and required by Company per protocol.
- Oversees the on-site provision of medical services and compliance with state and federal laws, the Clinic’s and site-specific Company protocols under Medical Directors.
- Supports / Performs training or other clinical personnel as needed.
V. Possible Oversight of Responsibilities of Clinic LVN / Nursing Staff
- Obtains and may be asked to analyze department workload data to plan own and schedule daily staff to meet the needs of each location.
- May be asked to assist with ensuring adequate level of staffing by interviewing, recommending hiring of, orienting, training, and evaluating the performance of clinic technicians and administrative service staff.
- May be asked to interact with the Clinic’s Corporate Human Resources in resolving complex employee relations problems.
- Works closely with the other staff members in the Clinic.
VI. Compliance
Works together with the Clinic’s designated staff to maintain compliance with applicable OSHA regulations, patient confidentiality under state and federal Worker’s Compensation laws, and per the Clinic’s corporate policies and site-specific Company protocols.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of PA / NP theory and practice to evaluate patients and provide patient care.
- Knowledge of organizational policies, state and federal regulations, and procedures to administer patient care in an occupational medical setting and private practice setting.
- Knowledge of the use of all medical equipment and instruments in the Medical Clinic to administer patient care.
- Knowledge of common work-site and potentially Client Company work-site safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment and counsel and treat employees / patients as needed.
- Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods, and techniques of professional PA / NP care to provide ongoing patient care.
- Skill in taking medical history to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
- Skill in preparing and maintaining electronic records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence, in compliance with worker’s compensation laws and other applicable regulations.
- Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical / technical staff, and management of Client Company.
- Ability to maintain quality control standards.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to communicate clearly.
Education :
- Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant program.
- Maintains current NP / PA licenses for practice per specified state and federal law.
- Maintains current BCLS (CPR / AED) certificate.
- Maintains a current DEA License.
- Maintains NP / PA continuing medical education (CME) governed by state and federal laws, participates in professional development activities, and maintains professional affiliations.
