The Director of School Health Services is responsible for managing, planning, implementing and evaluating comprehensive health / dental, environmental safety, and nutrition programs for children and their families enrolled in Oak Hill School.
Position involves extensive record keeping, organizing, problem solving and time management; interpretation and communication of complex regulations and medical data and terminology.
Requires extensive interaction with children, staff, parents and the larger community. The position advises and assists the Chief Administrator in strategic planning for the agency.
- Managing, planning, implementing and evaluating comprehensive Health programs :
- Evaluate the school health program to plan for more comprehensive services for the child, family, and staff as necessary;
assist in the formulation of the School’s wellness and health program. Components to include : Nutrition Services, Health Services, Health and Safe School Environment, Counseling and Mental Health Services, Staff Wellness Promotion, Parent and Community Involvement, Physical activity and Health Education.
Create systems and processes to track the schools’ progress in attaining a culture of wellness utilizing quantifiable and data-driven rubrics, including but not limited to, methods of evaluation that assess the contribution of nursing, psychology, and / or social work in school health areas on a continuous basis related to health needs.
Coordinate with other professionals and citizen’s groups in researching, planning and implementing the District’s wellness and health program.
- Coordinate through service providers the appropriate use of screening techniques in vision, hearing, dental and other tests;
- arrange for the training of teachers or volunteers in performing screenings; plan for the follow-up of suspected findings;
assist teachers and volunteers in developing an awareness of signs of illness or other health problems. Collaborate with the Child Nutrition Team to provide wellness education opportunities in and out of the kitchen, as well as resources to help students, families and staff incorporate these lessons into their daily lives.
- Delegate in collaboration with health service providers, observe and report to physicians, with parental approval, the pupil's health status and any reaction at school to drugs or treatments prescribed by the physician
- Participate in formulating policies for the care of students who become ill or injured at school; arrange for the instruction of school personnel to give emergency care.
Supervise the reporting of any known or suspected communicable disease cases to the local health department .
- Assure school health programming aligns with Oak Hill School mission and goals and ensures the classroom environment remains conducive to learning resulting in maintaining and / or increasing student census.
- School Health leader in supporting students’ education through appropriate health programming that complies with all schools statutory and regulatory guidelines.
- Effectively plans and organizes all systems relative to student health initiatives and compliance.
- Leads, directs and mentors School Nurse Supervisor and License Practical Nurses in support of school health administration throughout all Oak Hill classrooms.
- Inform and / or engage student families of student health services initiatives or health alerts as required.
- Provide school health guidance to Chief Administrator in support of accomplishing Oak Hill School strategic goals.
Education : Associate Degree in Nursing; Connecticut Registered Nurse license
Skills / Training / Experience : 3 years professional nursing experience.
- Competency : Excellent leadership and / or supervisory, interpersonal and communication skills; ability to develop, implement, and evaluate;
- analyze, organize, interpret; define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and identify solutions; direct and present information to individuals and groups;
mange accurate records; establish and maintain community partnerships; manage timelines, work plans, and make policy recommendations as necessary.

Preferred Requirements :
Education : Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing; Connecticut Registered Nurse license
Skills / Training / Experience : 5-7 years professional nursing experience in school environment.
