Description The Kentucky Department for Community Based Services (DCBS) is a multi-faceted agencythat provides services and programs to enhance the self-sufficiency of families.

The Social Service Worker I is a skilled team member, providing a vital link betweenthe children, families, and local community partners.

The employee is expected toperform at the highest quality, to ensure services to the vulnerable citizens. This is a demanding positionthat requires maturity, self-discipline, and the ability to work overtime.

This position will be on a PM shift working 4 : 00pm-12 : 00am.

Responsibilities and Duties :

  • Under direct supervision in processing referrals that involve allegations ofdependency / abuse / neglect from Community Partners and the public.
  • Perform in a fast-paced environment that requires excellent time management skills.
  • Talk with other interested parties such as community, school, and medical staff togather additional information.
  • Make referrals to outside community resources to assist the family in overcomingidentified barriers and to keep children safe in a permanent home and promote theirwellbeing.
  • Process referrals according to timeframes established and maintain a high level ofcustomer service while handling additional duties
  • Enter case / report information intothe computer.
  • Provide testimony during administrative and judicial hearings.
  • Work closely with community partners such as law enforcement, school systems,counselors, and shelters.
  • Potentially meeting with community partners and varied stakeholders and helpingthrough training and community relations.

Preferred Knowledge / Skills / Abilities :

  • Experience working with families and / or children and vulnerable adults.
  • Strong verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Have a smile in your voice and offer superior customer service.
  • Good time management, prioritization, and organizational skills
  • The ability to work well under pressure.
  • A willingness to work as part of a team.

Minimum Requirements EDUCATION : Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in social work, sociology, psychology, marriage and family therapy or a related field.

Working Conditions Performs job duties in an office / facility or residential program setting and visits clients and / or families at their residence.

Provides emergency services on 24-hour basis, including accepting referrals and completing investigations at any hour without prior warning.
