Overview

Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, is seeking a Director.

Reporting directly to the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Budget & Finance, this position is responsible for the management, organization, direction, and administration of the daily activities of the finance team and overall budget and finance functions of the administrative unit.

Responsibilities include :

  • Provides high-level budgeting, forecasting, financial and business modeling, and variance analysis.
  • Oversees the financial operations, financial planning and analysis; administration of policies, compliance, purchasing, payroll, and oversight of transactions utilizing the University ERP systems.
  • Prepares and monitors the Rutgers University Newark cost centers, auxiliary and responsibility units working budget with monthly closings, and preparation of special reports as needed for assessment and evaluation purposes.
  • Provides oversight of the day-to-day financial operations of the Chancellor Office and Cost Centers.
  • Creates and improves upon the business processes and practices.
  • Responds to and prepares reports in support of the university and campus finance offices.
  • Provides guidance and training to faculty, staff, and administrators as required on university financial systems, processes, and operations.
  • Regularly communicates with Vice Chancellors and Chief Financial Officer regarding the overall finances of their departments and programs.
  • Leads the overall development of the campus-wide working budget, forecast, month-end close, and financial modeling.
  • Leads efforts to create actionable dashboards and scorecards that provide feedback on strategic performance against budget, forecast, and rolling forecast to improve results and provide feedback for opportunities and risks.
  • Oversees special projects and initiatives as they relate to the finance operations of the unit and the campus as a whole.

Position Status : Full Time

Work Arrangement : This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Flexible work arrangements are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System.

Annual Minimum Salary : $116,658

Annual Mid Range Salary : $147,658

Annual Maximum Salary : $178,658

Standard Hours : 37.50

Union Description : Admin Assembly (MPSC)

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience :

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and / or experience that demonstrates knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in a financial / accounting function.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Skilled in understanding database structure and manipulating data imports and exports for financial reporting and analysis.
  • Ability to work independently and professionally with limited supervision.
  • Ability to manage staff effectively and assist them with daily problems / questions.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Master's degree or CPA preferred.
  • Experience in a higher education environment strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of Rutgers University Systems : Oracle, EPBCS, PeopleSoft, and Jaggaer preferred.
  • Knowledge of Responsibility Center Management, Tableau, Oracle ERP Cloud, and Oracle Enterprise Budget Planning Cloud software preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment : Prolonged computer utilization and long periods in sedentary positioning.
