JOB SUMMARY : This individual is responsible for providing vision care, interacting with patients and preparing them for their time with the doctor.
As an ophthalmic assistant, you will provide chair-side doctor assistance, perform diagnostic tests as required by ophthalmologist, and administer treatment when necessary.
COMPETENCIES :
Communication and Patient Care
- Provide exceptional vision care to enhance the patient experience.
- Greet patients and set expectations for their exam.
- Gather patient medical history and complaints.
- Monitor patient flow, ensuring the physician exam rooms are always full and patients are moving through the patient experience.
- Acts as scribe for physician.
- Escorts patients to front desk after exam.
Patient Education
- Reviews physician-generated instructions with patient.
- Provides appropriate patient education materials as directed by physician.
Administrative
- Ensures that exam rooms are tidied and sanitized between patients, including cleaning sinks and sanitizing equipment.
- Clean all lenses used by doctors.
- Prepares for COA exam.
- And all other duties as assigned.
Requirements :
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
High school diploma or equivalent.
Two years' experience in a healthcare setting preferred, but not required.
