ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Incumbent must achieve the following outcomes with or without reasonable accommodation :
- Administers and documents first aid care to students following District policy.
- Assists in the self-administration of medication as directed by APS medication policy and supervising nurse.
- Assists in maintaining immunization records and enforcing registration requirements as required by New Mexico laws and regulations.
- Assists in maintaining school health record system.
- Reports student illness, unusual events and injuries to immediate supervisor, appropriate personnel and parents.
- Performs vision, hearing, height and weight screening tests.
- Maintains clean, organized and orderly health room environment.
- Maintains inventory and orders health room supplies.
- Performs clerical tasks as requested by supervising nurse.
- Performs student-specific medical procedures and / or treatments as requested by supervising nurse according to the delegation policy of the New Mexico Board of Nursing.
- Assists in the toileting or diapering of students when appropriate following established procedures.
- Serves as a model in developing students’ language and behavior.
- Monitors student activities in classrooms, school grounds, hallways, lunchrooms, field trips, bus loading areas, and other areas relevant to the teaching environment.
- Provides support for non-instructional duties such as monitoring snacks, restrooms, clothing areas, etc.
- Escorts students to other locations on campus and off campus with approval in case of emergencies.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS : The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation :
- The employee must regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds in supplies which requires bending, stooping and lifting.
- The employee must have the physical strength and ability to assist injured students or staff members in emergency situations by positioning or moving following established procedures.
- The employee must use hands and arms to manipulate objects.
- The employee must use keyboards, tools and other controls.
- The employee must sit and stand for long periods of time.
- The employee must have normal vision and hearing with or without aid.
- The employee must be able to move about assigned location unaided during the day.

- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Flexibility, organization, decision-making and problem solving skills.
- Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.

- Knowledge of District policies on immunization, medication, first aid, emergencies and child abuse / neglect
REQUIREMENTS :
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS :
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Licensure based on State Department of Education Regulation No. 90-5
- Successful completion of training in first aid and CPR.
