Your role at Baxter
The Senior Manager, UCAN Global Trade and Customs supports and provides oversight for all regional Global Trade activities, including import, export, duty savings, and special trade program activities.
This role develops and implements internal controls relating to Baxter’s global trade activities to maintain a high standard of compliance with Customs and other government agency laws and regulations, minimize the risk of penalty and fines due to non-compliance, increase opportunities for duty reduction, and provide Global Trade support for all Baxter entities.
The Senior Manager also helps to define strategic planning opportunities for trade operations, maintains a dedicated, strong Global Trade team that optimally performs compliance activities and builds relationships with facilities and / or country personnel to understand existing / future operations.
Will also support & drive continuous improvement projects to ensure globally consistent best in class processes, systems, and standards while staying on top of all legislative and regulatory changes.
What you'll be doing
- Recruit, manage and develop Regional Global Trade team members (direct and indirect) for personal and professional growth and efficiency, including developing Global Trade career paths and succession plans for key roles.
- Oversee changes to Customs and other governing agency laws and regulations where Baxter entities are involved in import and export activities and communicate relevant changes to Baxter’s affected trade community.
- Assist in development and lead regional deployment of globally standard processes and procedures.
- Supervise regional Global Trade Management Software implementation.
- Develop and implement import / export role-based training program.
- Identify and implement strategic cost savings initiatives such as foreign trade zones, duty drawback, free trade agreements, duty suspension regimes, etc.
- Represent Baxter’s interest in cooperation with local business management, Legal, and advisors in matters related to Global Trade.
This includes handling responses to government requests and leading Customs audits during visits to Baxter facilities.
- Work closely with local operations (Logistics, Planning & Manufacturing) to seamlessly integrate Global Trade activities into overall operation.
- Understand and use Baxter Operating System (lean / six sigma) program to improve value, reduce waste and optimize department efficiency.
What you'll bring
- Bachelor’s Degree (from an accredited college / university preferred).
- Minimum 7 years of international trade compliance experience with a good understanding of core trade principles such as product valuation, tariff classification, C-TPAT, export controls / sanctions and trade programs.
- Detailed understanding of import / export operations, trade compliance concepts and Global Trade regulations in a multinational environment
- Detailed understanding of supply chain logistics including air, ocean, truck & rail, as well as knowledge and experience with warehousing, distribution, supplier and inventory management.
- Self-starter with ability to complete tasks with minimal direction and the ability to produce results with minimal supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills are needed. Ability to operate independently and collaborate with direct reports, Supply Chain, Global Manufacturing, Purchasing and Supplier Management, Marketing, Finance, Tax, outside service providers, and government officials.
- Experience working with Global Teams in a matrixed environment.
- U.S. Customs Brokers license or similar certification is highly preferred and healthcare or similar highly regulated industry experience is ideal.
- Experience and Interaction with Customs, FDA / MOH and other international government agencies.
