The Registered Radiologist Assistant enhances patient care in radiology services, under the supervision of a radiologist.
This position determine procedure appropriateness. This position obtains informed consent and patient history and physical for those exams that is deemed appropriate to independently perform.
The Registered Radiologist Assistant reviews variances identified through pre-procedural evaluation that may influence the expected outcome with the supervising radiologist prior to the procedure.
This role performs or assists the radiologist with noninvasive and invasive radiology procedures using image guidance as appropriate.
This role participates in the preparation, administration, and documentation of medications.
The Registered Radiologist Assistant evaluates images for completeness and diagnostic quality, report initial observations to delegating radiologist, provide follow-up patient evaluation and communicate the radiologist report to the appropriate health care providers.
This job acts as liaisons between patients, radiologic technologists, radiologists, and other members of the health care team.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire :
Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT). Certification by the ARRT as Radiologist Assistant
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment :
Current Certification as Registered Radiologist Assistant by ARRT Current Virginia State licensure as Radiologist Assistant. BLS and ACLS
Experience REQUIRED : N / A
Experience PREFERRED :
1 year of previous work experience. Previous work experience in an academic medical center environment
Education / training REQUIRED :
Bachelor's Degree with post baccalaureate training from an academic program encompassing a nationally recognized radiologist assistant curriculum that includes a radiologist directed clinical preceptorship.

Masters Degree
Independent action(s) required :
Performs patient assessment, patient management, and procedures in medical imaging and interventional radiology.
Represents the goals, values, and vision of VCU Health System.
Ensures adherence to regulatory standards, health system and department policies, procedures, processes, and guidelines applicable to role.
Resolves complex service delivery issues.
Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable) :
May indirectly supervise technologist staff competency as well as serve as radiologist assistant student preceptors.
Additional position requirements :
Shift rotation and schedules will be established with your specific manager.
Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meeting staffing needs and add on patients.
On-call, weekend and other after hours coverage may be required based on workload demand and staffing needs of the health system.
Adjusts schedules to work in as appropriate.
Radiologist Assistants are considered "Essential Employees" who may be required to report to work in accordance with the VCUHS Policy.
