Chief Purpose of this position : The Children’s Hospital of Richmond (CHoR) atVirginia Commonwealth University is seeking a physician to lead the Section of ClinicalGenetics.
CHoR at VCU has a commitment to provide quality patient care andservice excellence. The Section of Clinical Genetics offers inpatient andoutpatient consultations and genetic counseling services for genetic conditionsacross the lifespan.
CHoR is the largest full-service academic pediatrichospital in central Virginia, and part of a multispecialty hospital with 160beds.
Our Children’s Pavilion for outpatient services opened in March 2016. Ournew 500,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art inpatient facility Children’s Toweropened in April 2023.
Position Responsibilities :
Teaching : Will contribute to the clinical supervision and education of residents, medical students, genetic counseling graduate students, and ancillary staff.
This will also include mentoring of junior faculty and Didactic teaching in MS Genetic Counseling Program and VCU School of Medicine.
- Research : Will engage in scholarship through presentationsat national meetings, contributions to peer-reviewed scientific literature, andactive participation in appropriate professional organizations.
- Service : Will participate in regional, national, andinternational conferences with clinical colleagues. Participation indepartmental, institutional, and national committees is encouraged, whenappropriate.
- Clinical : Active participation as a clinician in variousclinics and other settings, including telemedicine, and sharing call andconsultative responsibilities with other Clinical Genetics physicians.
VCU Clinical Genetics sees patients acrossthe lifespan, from preconception to end of life. Candidates can expect to see both pediatric andadult patients with the majority of those appointments being held on ourdowntown Richmond campus in both our adult outpatient pavilion and ourpediatric outpatient pavilion.
Administrative : Responsible for sectiongrowth and development, strategic planning, expansion, quality improvement, andfostering relationships within the Department and VCU Health and geneticscommunity.
Supervision of section MD’s,APP’s and genetic counselors, metabolic dieticians and ancillary staff.
Required Qualifications :
The applicant must exhibit dynamic and innovative clinical and teaching skills, including in teaching and training of graduate and medical students.
The position requires demonstrated clinical and teaching experience.
- MD, MD / PhD, or equivalent degree with Certification by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) in Clinical Genetics and Genomics.
- Candidates must be qualified for full, unrestricted medical licensure in Virginia.
- Candidates must have previous leadership experience or a minimum of 8 years of experience providing patient care.
- Must have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU is required.
Preferred Qualifications :
- AMBGG certification in Clinical Biochemical Genetics.
- Preference will be given to candidates with clinical experience and an interest and / or ability in research and scholarly activity as displayed through publication in professional journals and presentations at national meetings.
